While Sheila had never had an affair, she had come very close one time when she had come to 1010 to find the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life staying there for a rental stay. His stay was up just as she was about to lose control of herself.  She was certain that she would have too if he had stayed a few hours longer. His name was Quinton Stokes. She'd never forget him...

She had framed Quinton's photo and placed it in the room where he had stayed while at 1010.

After he had left, she had discovered that he had taken a photo of her when she had stepped out of the sauna. Sheila noticed that the photo earnestly captured her
feelings for him, and it showed on her facial expression. Quinton thought that it was such a nice photo that he had left it there in the room where he had stayed. He had called back after he had left to tell Sheila that he expected to return so she must always leave the photo that he had taken of her in that room for him.

After she had seen the photo of herself, she had gone out to buy a frame for it to match the frame that she had purchased for Quinton's photo. Then she set both photos on the dresser side by side.  And she could just imagine what would happen upon Quinton's return to 1010.

Au la la, was all Sheila could think about when she looked at Quinton's photo. She had decided that she'd head to the room on the second floor in which he had stayed for his visit after she had settled into the room she wanted to stay in this visit. She called it the Orange Room. It was her favorite room of the house.

The thought of Quinton walking into 1010 had her stomach fluttering.  She thought about the music that she wanted to have playing when he arrived. She loved soft romantic jazz, and she knew that Quinton did too. She had found that out when he was there on his last stay. She had been playing soft romantic jazz when she had been in the sauna, and he had been listening and enjoying the music she had discovered later.  That made the picture that he had taken of her after she came out of the sauna even more memorable to him he had said to her over the telephone after he had gotten back to his home.  They had not spoken, nor seen each other since, and that was almost a year ago.

As the clock ticked, Sheila was getting more and more excited about Quinton's arrival.

Meanwhile, Quinton was in his Porsche heading in Sheila's direction. He was making good time, and he had Sheila's gift on the seat next to him. He knew she'd no doubt be very shocked when he gave it to her.

Sheila had gotten into her luscious bubble bath, and the thought ran across her mind of having Quinton in the bubble bath with her. Then she quickly blushed at the thought, and turned her attention to the soft jazz music playing throughout the house.  Focusing on the music didn't seem to help her much with dispelling the thought of Quinton in the bubble bath with her, so she let her mind go wheresoever it would – and go it did...

VINETTE ONE ~ Unaccustomed Business

Sheila Chesney was always a little apprehensive about going to 1010 HouseCapade Blvd. Her entire being began to quake the closer she got to the house of unaccustomed business. That's what she called her “out of the blue stays” at 1010 – ”unaccustomed business.” The home was full of sealed wall secrets. They were ever present, yet always surprising when unwrapped. She found herself finding new feelings emerge from her soul within each room of the house.

No more doodling – she told herself. She must get going, because she was sure
someone and something was awaiting her at 1010. Some new adventure of the year was ready to pop out at her and stir her to higher aspirations. Sheila knew it, welcomed it, and longed for it. Her marriage had been dead from the start. She didn't know why she had ever married a man devoid of passion. Carter Chesney was such a dud. He had taken her name, not the other way around – like normal traditional married people did. He was greedy, and wanted in on her monies. Sheila's family was wealthy, and he played the 'I love you dearly' role long enough to get into her family's good graces. Then once he had made it to the altar and the vows were complete, he breezed through the wedding reception appearing to be the most sought after man in the world. But, in reality, he was nothing more than a man with a failed plan complete with erectile dysfunction, as their honeymoon so proved. Sheila discovered that Carter could do nothing sexually to please a woman, frankly, because he really had no desire for a woman – erectile dysfunction aside. The real Carter jumped out at her immediately on their honeymoon with a sour note that still resonated many years later.

As she got off Gather Expressway Exit 12, she started heading for the Destiny Subdivision which was located between Chance and Fate Streets. Everything about 1010 HouseCapade Blvd. reminded her of a Vincent Price movie – updated for the 2014 year she was just about to step fully into.

It was February 1st, 2014, and she was looking forward to Valentine's Day. She
didn't know why she was looking forward to it though. Her marriage had been on the rocks for about 10 years, and she wasn't even fifty yet. Sheila had no children, no grandchildren, and no reason to have any at this point in her life. She could barely stand to be in the same room with her husband, which is why she was about to climb the front stairs of 1010 HouseCapade Blvd. Not only to get away from her husband's presence, but to clear her mind and relax her soul.

The house had been left to the Chesney family by one of her great aunts – Mildred Chesney. Mildred had no children, and had divorced her husband, Morgan, who had left her with extensive property holdings. 1010 was just one of the many homes that she had acquired from her divorce. Each of Mildred Chesney's nieces and nephews had been willed a home. There were ten nieces and nephews, and ironically, all of the properties were numbered with addresses that seemed to be in line with the proper niece or nephew.

Sheila Chesney was born on October 10th, at 10:00 am. Therefore, she was willed 1010 HouseCapade Blvd, because not only did the address seem to line up with her, but the street name was fitting for her according to her aunt Mildred. She had always told her that she was born to live a life of escapades. And so it was that this big mansion of a home was left to her care.

EYE ON ~ TWISTED SHORTIES II ~ A.F. Stewart and Pam Brittain by René Allen

+René Allen
EYE ON…
TWISTED SHORTIES II ~ An Anthology
A.F.Stewart, Formatting Editor and Publisher
Pam Brittain, Chief Compiler

An Anthology is a collaborative work that involves putting together short stories and/or poetic works for publication.  Bringing together a collection of creative Authors and Poets to create a published work requires the hand of a very talented Editor, and a gifted Chief Compiler.  We all know what the job of an Editor is.  There were three additional conscientious Editors, Len Maxwell, John Beck and Greg Schiller, who all assisted with the editing of TWISTED SHORTIES II, in addition to A.F. Stewart.

What is a Chief Compiler? -- you may ask.  A Chief Compiler is a person who with the cooperation of the Authors involved and at the direction of the Editor involved, collects, reviews, assists with edits, and compiles the literary works ensuring that they are made ready for publication.

One such Anthology that I was asked to participate in, along with many other very talented Authors and Poets from the Gather Community, is entitled TWISTED SHORTIES II . . .

The Formatting Editor, and Publisher for TWISTED SHORTIES II, A. F. Stewart has an impressive collection of published books.  She is a very inspiring Author, whose books are well worth the read.  You can find out more about her by visiting her BLOG:  http://afstewartblog.blogspot.ca/  and you can also take a look at her BIO PAGE:  http://about.me/AFStewart

A. F. Stewart BIO:  A. F. Stewart was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, and still calls it home.  The youngest in a family of seven children, she has always had an overly creative mind and an active imagination. She is fond of good books (especially science fiction/fantasy), action movies, sword collecting, and oil painting as a hobby.  Ms. Stewart is an indie author with several published novellas and story collections in the dark fantasy or horror genres, with a few side trips into poetry and non-fiction. She has a great interest in history and mythology, often working those themes into her books and stories.

The gifted Chief Compiler for TWISTED SHORTIES II, Pam Brittain, is currently working on many other projects.  Pam Brittain was a key person who brought all of the Authors and Poets from Gather together to do this project.  Pam is a very interesting and inspiring woman of great passion for helping authors to stay focused and on track.  She is a lot of fun, and she is a very creative Writer, (even though she’ll deny it) ~ smiles Pam… Take a moment to read Pam Brittain’s BIO, and you’ll know what I mean about how much FUN she is…

Pam Brittain BIO:  Pam Brittain grew up with a family that often sat in the backyard mentally calling in UFOs.  Pam says, ‘I was thinking, don’t come in UFO.  Heck, I didn’t want to have my belly poked with alien needles!’

As Pam grew older, she became a Real Estate Foreclosure Specialist, Founding President of the Association, and she worked on various other projects.

Later, at the age of “over the hill and older than dirt”, as Pam says, she shares how she began to write and post on a Site called, Gather.  Within a few months, Pam became one of the Editors for “Gather Writing Essential”, which is a Gather Group that she had joined within the Gather Site.  Through this Group, Pam developed a new passion -- editing books!

“Drather read and edit than write” ~ Pam Brittain

We give Connie C. (Gather Writing Essential Group Owner on Gather.com) accolades for all she does to keep the Writing Essential Group inspired and motivated to be a lively place for Authors, Writers, Poets, and those who would like to learn more about writing.

From the very beginning, this collaborative work on the publication of TWISTED SHORTIES II was a joy to participate in.  Each and every Author and Poet who participated in the TWISTED SHORTIES II Anthology offered very unique styles of writing.  Their backgrounds and literary accomplishments vary and are individually impressive.  Those other talented Authors and Poets who provided interesting short stories and poetry for the publication of TWISTED SHORTIES II are as follows:
