Welcome back to the Blog.  If you are new here to the Blog, just to fill you in, we have been discussing the California wildfires for the past few Blog Sessions.  The devastating wildfires are making history in the worst possible way.  We are going to be discussing the latest news on the wildfires that are raging in the state of California.

Please grab your Journals and your Diaries for this Session.  We are going to be filling you in on some of the issues in connection with the relentless wildfires in California.

First, we'd like to make sure that everyone is aware of the fact that many of the fire victims are elderly.  At least 400 people are reported missing in Sonoma County alone, where a fire wiped out many homes in Santa Rosa, a city of about 175,000 people some 50 miles northwest of San Francisco.

Please note that Sheriff Giordano advised that Deputies are having to wait for houses to cool before they can enter in to look for the missing.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office identified ten (10) victims Thursday, October 12th, 2017, and most of them were over 70 years of age.  The youngest was 57 years old, and the oldest was 95 years old.

Sonoma, Mendocino and Napa counties have been among the hardest hit by the fires.  Nearly 20% of the population in those counties is over 65, according to US Census Bureau data.

We must look after our Seniors.  If you are a resident living in the United States, you may remember what happened in Hollywood, Florida when Hurricane Irma came through and wiped out the electricity in a nursing home.  This caused the air conditioning to be knocked out, raising fears about the safety of Florida's four (4) million senior citizens amid power outages that could last for days.

Unfortunately, eight (8) patients at a sweltering nursing home died after Hurricane Irma knocked out the air conditioning.  The deaths at the Rehabilitation Centre were heat-related, and the building was immediately sealed off and a criminal investigation was conducted.

In light of those eight (8) deaths, Governor Rick Scott called on Florida emergency workers to immediately check on all nursing homes to make sure patients were safe, and he vowed to punish anyone found culpable in the deaths.  Governor Scott stated, "This situation is unfathomable."

Currently in California ~

More than 20,000 people have been driven from their homes in Northern California.  The fast-moving wildfires continue to spread devastation and desperation.  Dozens are now dead.

There are ways that you can help those dealing with the fires, and ways you can get help if you're in need.  Organizations are on the ground providing emergency supplies to those affected.  If you live in Northern California, you can volunteer and donate aid through the Facebook page (Tubbs Fire - Info, Housing, Pets, Food (Lake/Sonoma/Mendo) - Public Group.  Facebook has also activated a safety check-in page.

Home Care Assistance is offering to help seniors in Napa and Sonoma evacuate safely and to transport their belongings.  Call (925) 817-0416.

The American Red Cross is also seeking volunteers to assist evacuees.

Wine County Animal Lovers is offering pet supplies to help evacuees keep their animals with them.

Today is a new day, and we are looking at an image at the top of this Blog that is being seen in the state of California in more that one place, and in more than one city.  It is a grim scene in many areas, and in Sonoma County, authorities had to turn to dental records, fingerprints, tattoos and serial numbers on hip implants to identify victims.

I'm not sure if you have been following the news reports or not, or if you have been following along here on the Blog as we have been discussing the California wildfires, which don't seem to be going anywhere at the moment.

The question for all Blog Readers today is this:  Is this happening, along with devastating hurricanes, earthquakes, and general unrest in different Countries about political leadership because of incompetent leaders, global warming, dissatisfaction with life overall, or because of greed and evil?

As some people return to their homes, they are finding ashes -- for the most part, mainly ashes . . .

The deadly fires have leveled thousands of homes and forced evacuations in Northern California's wine country.  In addition, the wildfires have produced unhealthy air quality in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The biggest fires in Northern California were far from contained.

There is the Atlas fire involving 48,000-plus acres in Napa and Solano counties ~ 27% contained.

The 44,000-acre Nuns fire in Sonoma County is an amalgamation of three recently merged fires north and west of Glen Ellen, and was listed as 5% contained.

Then, there is the 34,000-acre Tubbs fire in Napa and Sonoma counties which was 25% under control, and the 34,000-acre Redwood and Potter fires in Mendocino County which were 10% contained.

In terms of residential destruction, more than 2,800 homes have been destroyed by the wildfires in Santa Rosa, Mayor Chris Coursey told reporters on Thursday.  The number of destroyed structures in the state exceeds 3,500 Cal Fire has reported.

FOR YOUR RECORDS:

The California wildfires have burned more than 221,000 acres throughout California, and 17 fires remained as of Thursday, October 12th, 2017.

Winds are expected to be especially gusty Friday right through Saturday.  Those conditions, joined with low humidity, could spread the flames drastically, the National Weather Service warns.  No rain is expected for almost a week.

Today's Blog Session will be a continuation of what we have been discussing in the past few Blog Sessions, which is the topic of the California wildfires, which are devastating the landscape and the lives of thousands of people, as well as ravaging homes and businesses.  The wildfires are unfortunately making natural disaster history in the state of California as the most devastating wildfires to date...

The firefighters are battling strong winds while trying to contain the fires.  Officials are making grim discoveries of bodies burnt beyond recognition as they search the blackened ruins left by wildfires scorching parts of Northern California.  "Some of them are merely ashes and bones," Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano said at a Press Converence.  "And we may never truly get confirmative identification on ashes.  When you're cremated, you can't get an ID."

Thirty-one (31) people have been killed since the wildfires began last Sunday night, making this outbreak one of the deadliest in California state history, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Homeowners are coming back to their homes to find nothing more than ashes.  It is sad to see, and something that none of us would ever want to live through.

As you do your research on the California wildfires, write your diary entries, and save news clippings, also remember to add in all of the donations, assistance, good will, and prayers that have been contributed to those in need during this time inside your Diary or Journal.

Resources are limited, and firefighters are battling the fires with all their heart.  We again ask that you lift the firefighters up in prayer, as well as the people in the state of California.

We are back here Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors for another informative Blog Session.

As wildfires rage on in California, our Unsung Heroes are on the front lines.

If you were here for our last Blog Session, then you are aware of what is currently going on in the state of California.  Our firefighters have been working day and night battling the wildfires.  Firefighters are not given enough credit or money for the work that they do.  Firefighters put their lives at risk to save people and property on a daily basis.  There is a special calling to be a Firefighter, and not everyone has the guts to do it, nor the calling for it.  Today, let us say a prayer for our Firefighters.

People are running for their lives to escape the fast-moving wildfires.  Sadly, lives have been lost ~ 23 people are dead (from Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Yuba counties), where 3,500 homes and businesses have been burned at last count.  Hundreds are currently missing.

In Santa Rosa, California, the wind known as the Diablo has picked up again, the air is dry, there is no rain in sight, and the killer wildfires ravaging Northern California's wine country remained almost completely uncontained.  Officials warned that some of the big fires could merge, even as new blazes erupted, and thousands of people have been told to prepare to leave their homes -- if they haven't already done so. 

The impact from the wildfires could last a decade.  Homes, businesses, and jobs are impacted.  The wine industry is also heavily affected.

Cellphone towers are down in many areas, and therefore cellphone service is spotty.  There are family members attempting to find their loved ones.  Animals are being rounded up by some agencies during this time.

As we continue to keep a close eye on what is going on in the state of California and the wildfires, please keep everyone in your prayers.

Well, today we are turning to a different topic, and those of you who are here Reading along who are US citizens will be very interested in what is going to be shared today.

If you are an avid News reader, watch the News Reports on television, on your computer, tablet, or smartphone,  or if you happen to live in the state of California, then you are already aware of what I am about to share with you.

Please grab your Journals to take notes, because what I am about to share with you is currently making History, and not in a good way . . .

Has anyone noticed that wildfires are roaring and tearing through California?  According to US News, at least fifteen (15) people are dead from the raging wildfires across California.  There are more than 200 people that have been reported missing as explosive, wind-whipped wildfires rage through Northern California's famed Wine Country, forcing fire crews to race to get the massive blazes under control.

There are seventeen (17) fires burning around the state, with nearly 90,000 acres ablaze thanks to flames fueled by strong winds.  In addition, the fires have destroyed at least 1,500 structures, burned 119,000 acres, and forced the evacuation of 20,000 residents.

Just to put this situation into perspective, there are hundreds of firefighters mobilized in Anaheim to fight the blaze burning over an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 acres.  Thousands of residents are impacted by the flames.  Many are in shock, as their homes have been destroyed by the wildfires.

Ken Pimlott, the Director of the California Department of Forestry and fire Protection (Cal Fire), said the fires started last night at around 10:00pm local time (on Sunday, October 8th, 2017).

The hardest hit area seemed to be Santa Rosa, where seven of the deaths were reported.  Officials warn that the death toll is likely to rise:  one county alone received more than 100 Missing Person Reports.

The two largest fires -- the so called Tubbs Fire in Sonoma County, and the so-called Atlas Peak Fire in Napa County -- torched 27,000 and 25,000 acres, respectively, and were still not contained as of Tuesday morning, Officials said.

The Governor of the State of California has declared a State of Emergency.

North of San Francisco is Santa Rosa, which is Wine Country's largest city in Northern California.  The city is also being affected by the wildfires, with over 1,500 homes and commercial structures being destroyed.  Also noted, whole neighborhoods were leveled by the fire and reduced to ashes.  One witness to the fires described the wildfires as, "Hell on earth, it's insane.  I've never seen anything like it."

It is a new day here on the Blog.  Today's Blog Session is going to involve a serious issue that we have covered here on the Blog in Sessions' past.  That serious issue is mental health.  Yes, mental health needs a spotlight shined on it.

Here is an overview about Mental Health . . .

Millions of Americans live with various types of mental illness and mental health problems, such as social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, drug addiction, and personality disorders.  Treatment options include medication and psychotherapy.

There is one particular mental health condition that I'd like to bring forth today, and that is "paranoia".

P A R A N O I A

...is a mental condition characterized by delusions of persecution, unwarranted jealousy, or exaggerated self-importance, typically elaborated into an organized system.  It may be an aspect of chronic personality disorder, of drug abuse, or of a serious condition such as schizophrenia in which the person loses touch with reality.

For this Blog Session, let us pay particular attention to the following aspects of "Paranoia" . . .

1)  Exaggerated self-importance;

2)  Chronic Personality Disorder; and

3)  Schizophrenia ~ in which the person loses touch with reality.

We all know people who have an exaggerated sense of self-importance.  Some are worse than others.  An exaggerated sense of self-importance involves a person who has an exaggerated sense of their own self worth, value, or importance.  The question is, do they know that they have the problem?

People like the type just described are usually arrogant, have self-conceit (are conceited), and display pompous behavior like a peacock, but not pretty.

Many people who have this problem have a narcissistic personality disorder.  They will have a need for constant attention.  They will exploit others for personal gain.  They will not care if the attention is negative attention or not, they will just continually seek attention so that they may be in the spotlight at all times.  The narcissistic person cares about no one but theirself and their own interests.  If fact, in times of trouble, the spotlight will always be turned back to them, because they can not stand for anyone else to have any attention.  Any problems that you encounter that the narcissist is responsible for will always be your fault -- not theirs.  [This kinda reminds me of the case of Hurricane Maria and the Puerto Rico encounter with the paper towel thrower ~ Seriously speaking, is aid there yet?]

MENTAL HEALTH JOURNAL NOTES:  People who are paranoid have a suspicion and mistrust of people or their actions without evidence or justification.

EXAMPLE:  The global paranoia about hackers and viruses ~ [Question for you:  Is the threat real or fake news?]

Paranoia is a mental disorder characterized by systematized delusions and the projection of personal conflicts, which are ascribed to the supposed hostility of others, sometimes progressing to disturbances of consciousness and aggressive acts believed to be performed in self-defense or as a mission.  Paranoia also includes baseless or excessive suspicion of the motives of others.  It is a serious issue, and can be helped with therapy.

Paranoia is an instinct or thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of delusion and irrationality.  Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory, or beliefs of conspiracy concerning a perceived threat towards oneself.  Paranoia is distinct from phobias, which also involve irrational fear, but usually no blame.  Making false accusations and the general distrust of others also frequently accompany paranoia.  For example, an incident most people would view as an accident or coincidence, a paranoid person might believe was intentional.  Paranoia is a central symptom of psychosis.

If you know anyone who believes that objects or animals are out to get them, you may need to help them to get mental help as soon as possible.  We will talk about "psychosis" in an up-coming Blog Session.
