Camp NaNoWriMo ~ I started writing!

BLOG SESSION
April 4th, 2018

Good Afternoon Writers, Authors, Poets, Artists, Blog Readers, Followers, New Members to our Blog, and Visitors!

If you have just recently joined us this month to learn more about Camp NaNoWriMo ~ Welcome!  If you are a Writer, Author, emerging author, Poet, or interested in meeting other Writers and learning more about publishing your book, you are in the right place!

For those of you who are working on a writing project, or who have new book ideas that you'd like to get accomplished this year, the month of April is a good time to start working on what you'd like to see come to fruition.  Remember, Spring is the season when everything blooms and the air is fresh...and so is your mind!

"To be a good writer, an honest writer,
and a writer who actually writes,
it's important to reevaluate one's inhibitions."
~ Byran Hutchinson ~
From "Writer's Doubt" the book.

One thing about writing ~ You'll write your first Novel, and you'll wonder why you haven't written more.  You'll also find that writing is constantly on your mind.

Writing comes naturally to the destined Author!

Like those of you here who like to write poetry, you know how you sometimes grab a piece of paper to jot down the lines or thoughts that run through your mind during the day that make for a good poem?  It is the same for Writers, Authors and Novelists that love writing books.  It pays to also have a tape recorder or a smartphone that you can record your writing notes on.  Many a time you think you will not forget the thought that runs through your mind ~ and many a time you've been mistaken.  Be safe ~ write down your thoughts or record them for your next poem, book, play, song, film, documentary, speech, or any other literary work that you are working on.

Some of our friends here who have been following our Blog for a few years are already familiar with Camp NaNoWriMo ~ which is an offspring of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) ~ wherein Writers get together each year during the month of November and write a Novel or a Writing Project in 30 (thirty) days.  To learn more about the site where Writers get online to work on their Novels in 30 days, click on the NaNoWriMo link above.  If you have not yet participated during the month of November, now is a good time to sign up and review the Site for this year's November Writing frenzy online.

Review the Site and be ready when
November 2018 rolls around.

For those who have never written a Novel ~ a Novel constitutes about fifty-thousand (50,000) words or more.  If this seems like a lot to you, (if you have never written that many words before), it really isn't.  Once you do it the first time, it is a breeze to do so again, and again, and again!  You'll never know how it feels to write a Novel if you never try to write one of your own.

Books are exciting reads ~ especially when you are the Author.
Fear not Author!

For today, just make sure that you sign up to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo, and fill out all of the necessary items that we discussed yesterday...

1)  Complete your Profile;
2)  Create your writing project (book title or project title);
3)  Select your Cabin preference;
4)  Review all the areas of the Site; and
5)  Don't forget to check your campnonowrimo mailbox once
      you've signed up!

If you've already starting writing and are working on your Novel or Writing Project ~ Good for you!  Be sure to set a daily goal of how many words you'd like to accomplish.  Check in with your Cabin mates if you are in a Cabin with others.  Also check out the Camp NaNo Forums by clicking on this link.

We'll be back here tomorrow with more information for you, so be sure to check in.  You can also sign up to follow our Blog by email (if you have not done so already), by looking over in the far right-hand column under my eyeball to enter in your email address then click the "Submit" button, and you will receive each of our Blog Sessions as soon as they are published.

Get excited Authors ~ this is going to be a lot of FUN!
Don't be scared ~ you can do it!

Introversion (personality) ~ The Writer's Comfort Levels ~ PART 20(b) ~ More insight on the Introvert Personality trait

Introversion (personality)
The Writer's Comfort Levels
PART 20(b)
More insight on the Introvert Personality trait

BLOG SESSION
February 18th, 2018

We're back for more insight on the Introvert Personality trait!

If you were here for our last Session then you have plenty of notes in your Journal.  Be sure to grab your Journal for this wonderful Session because you'll really want to add all of the information that will be provided to you today!
Journal Notes

As mentioned in our last Session, today we would like to go over the top ten ways for Introverts to get through their day, which includes mostly a "How To " in getting out of negative situations and keeping positive about your character if you are an Introvert.  (From Author Nancy R. Fenn.) . . .

  • 1. Assert yourself as a legitimate personality type.
There are two legitimate personality types: extroverts and introverts.
  • 2. Correct people when they refer to introverts as neurotics.  Introverts are not neurotics.  They are introverts.
  • 3. Correct people when they refer to introverts as prone to mental illness.  Introverts are no more prone to mental illness than anyone else.  When extroverts are under stress, they overeat, smoke, drink and become violent.  When introverts are under stress, they withdraw.  This does not make them mentally ill.
  • 4. Correct people when they assert that introverts are anti-social.  Introverts are not anti-social.  They are drained by other people and must limit their time in the company of others, but they are friendly and loving people.
  • 5. Correct people when they assert that introverts have nothing to say.  On the contrary, introverts won’t speak unless they have something important to say!
  • 6. Put a proper value on your ability to be a good listener.  Good listening skills are invaluable in all areas of business and industry.
  • 7. Do not apologize for time spent alone.  Explain to critical “others” that introverts need to spend at least half their time alone for good mental and emotional health.  Then assert, if necessary, that introverts are a legitimate personality type.
  • 8. Introverts are not losers.  Take pride that you are in the company of such introverts, past and present, as Albert Einstein, Steven Spielberg, Queen Elizabeth II, Charles Darwin, Mahatma Gandhi, Michael Jordan and Bruce Lee.
  • 9. Stand up for introverted children who are being misunderstood in your presence.  This is one of the most healing things you can possibly do for yourself as it will heal your own inner child.
  • 10. Don’t let pushy extroverts interrupt you while you’re reading a good book, or doing anything else that you enjoy.  Explain politely that you can’t talk right now, you’re reading a book, or doing whatever it is that you are doing and enjoying.
As a Writer . . .

How do you write about the Introverted character in your story?

Take a moment to think about those friends, family members, classmates, neighbors, and co-workers that you know who have introverted personalities.

In your Journal for today's exercise:  Write a paragraph about the character of three to five of the people that you know who have introverted personalities.  Describe how each of them might handle a certain situation.

You'll find out just how interesting introverted people can be when you describe how you think they may handle a situation out of the blue.

Have fun with this exercise, because it will help you to develop storylines for the book that you plan to write this year.

If you have an introverted personality, this will be a very therapeutic exercise for you, because you will certainly understand just how you would handle a surprise situation.  In fact, if you write a paragraph about yourself just as you did for the three to five other people that you know personally who have an introverted personality, you will come to find a certain thought process going on that may be the same for some of the other introverts that you know.

Be sure to share your thoughts about this Blog Session, and do feel free to leave any particular insight that you'd like to share with everyone following along in the Comment Section at the end of our Blog Session for today.

Before we begin our discussion on Part 21 ~ Extroversion (personality), be sure to join us tomorrow for an Overview of Introverts vs Extroverts.

Introversion (personality) ~ The Writer's Comfort Levels ~ PART 20

Introversion (personality)
The Writer's Comfort Levels
PART 20

BLOG SESSION
February 17th, 2018

Welcome back Blog Readers, Writers, Authors, Novelists, Journalists, Poets, Diary Writers, Short Story Writers, Film Writers, and all Artists, Followers & Visitors...

You are in for a very introspective Blog Session today.  For everyone who believes that they are among the many people in the world who have an introverted personality or who know friends and/or family members who have introverted personalities, this will be an exceptionally good Session for you!

For all new Blog Session followers, please be sure to have your Journal ready when you come to the Sessions so that you will have your informative notes to look back on...

Journal Notes

Main Points relative to the Introverted Personality:

Introversion is one of the major personality traits identified in many theories of personality.  People who are introverted tend to be inward turning, or focused more on internal thoughts, feelings and moods rather than seeking out external stimulation.

What if YOU fit the description above?

The Introverted Personality

Suppose you feel that you have an introverted personality, and that people are always pointing out that you seem to be detached, unfriendly, non-communicative, moody, to-yourself more than normal, or worst case scenario ~ strange.

Try not to take it personally when people point out your personality trait.

Being an introvert isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  If it prevents you from doing what you really want to do, or hinders your working and personal life, then something should change.  However, introverts should be happy being so.  Everyone is not meant to be over-the-top bubbly and happy all the time, and it is okay if you are not an extrovert in the sense that people seem to think you need to be.

Get comfortable with who you are
and be comfortable with your
Personality Character Trait

We will come back with Part 20(b) as we discuss how to write about an Introverted personality in one of your stories.

We'll also go over top ten ways for Introverts to get through their day, which includes mostly a "How To " in getting out of negative situations and keeping positive about your character if you are an Introvert.  (From Author Nancy R. Fenn.)

For your notes, take a look at the following artwork, and decide which one is more YOU...

The Writer's Comfort Levels ~ PART 16(b) ~ "Anger" ~ Extended Version [Self Assessment]

The Writer's Comfort Levels
PART 16(b)
"Anger"
Extended Version
[Self Assessment]

BLOG SESSION
February 13th, 2018

Welcome back Blog Readers, Writers, Followers & Visitors ~  We will be continuing our Blog Session today with an extended version of The Writer's Comfort Levels in connection with the emotion of "Anger".

The reason we will share a touch more on "anger" with everyone here today is so that everyone may also gain a clear assessment of where they stand as it relates to the emotion of "anger" within self (personally).

Many of us never stop to assess if we may possibly have an "anger management" problem.

So if you would, please grab your Journal for this Session so that you may have notes readily available for further review at a later time when you can sit down with yourself...

Journal Notes
"Anger"
Self Assessment

As we discussed in our last Blog Session, in order to come to terms with an anger management problem that you may be facing, you must first determine the difference between simply being upset or having a real anger management problem.  Being upset also has various levels.  While some people may have prolonged bouts of being in an emotional "upset" state of mind, others may be extremely upset for a very short period of time.  You must know yourself to truly and honestly determine where you stand personally when it comes to anger control/management.

Being upset and fuming within yourself is a lot different from being upset and throwing things around, or punching holes in walls with your fists.

Being upset in an adult way wherein you are able to express your feelings calmly and succinctly is quite different from being upset with the frame of mind of a two (2) year old and throwing temper tantrums.

Temper Tantrum in progress

Children at the age of two (2) years old often have temper tantrums and melt~downs during their second year of life because it is a time when language skills are starting to develop.  Because toddlers can't yet say what they want, feel, or need, a frustrating experience may cause a tantrum.  As language skills improve, tantrums tend to decrease.  [Now some of you are raising you eyebrows because you are thinking of a person who throws temper tantrums, but they are not two years old]...which leads to another area:  Maturity.

As we mentioned in our last Blog Session, if you think that you may have an anger management problem, it is important to seek the help of a trained medical professional.

Let us do an anger management assessment. . .
Take a moment to check yourself in the following areas:

1)  Do you get mad over little things?
If you get upset over inconsequential things, like being
cut off in traffic by another driver, or having to wait for
an elevator ~ then you are likely to have an "anger
      problem".
2)  Do you interrupt people when they are talking?
Angry people tend to be impatient people.  Often they
have trouble waiting for others to finish what they are
saying.  And even when they are able to let the other
person talk, they might not actually be listening to them.
They may just be pretending to hear them, and faking
       their listening.
3)  Are you a complainer?
People who spend a lot of time complaining about the
transgressions or shortcomings of other people may have
an anger problem.  [Please Note:  Some angry people
may rant and rave about politics, others rant and rave
about sports, others complain about the Block Club
Members, still some others complain incessantly about
family members or friends, but make no mistake about it
~ the venom comes from the same source ~ Anger.
4)  Are you holding a grudge?
Relationships suffer when someone has trouble
forgiving someone who has wronged him or her in the
past.  Here is where you need to make a note in your
Journal that people who have "anger" issues often have
trouble doing just that ~ forgiving...Instead, they
continue to re-experience the frustration, pain, hurt, and
resentment each time they recall the wrong -- whether
       perceived or real.
5)  Do you find yourself getting hot or red in the
      face?
Getting hot can make your face red ~ and that goes for
emotional "heat" as well as hot temperatures as measured
on a thermometer.  Anger can also cause laborious
breathing, fidgeting, and even pacing back and forth.
Anger clearly affects the body as well as the mind.  In
fact, numerous studies have shown that angry people are
more likely to have high blood pressure and to suffer a
       stroke or heart attack.
6)  Are you overly sensitive?
Angry people are quick to take offense.  Comments that
others might laugh off can get under the skin of someone
who has an angry disposition.  Some people with an anger
"problem" are hyper vigilant, always waiting for others to
       screw up.
7)  Are you Cold-Hearted?
Angry people tend not to be very compassionate or
empathetic.  Some take pleasure in the misfortune of
others ~ a phenomenon known as *schadenfreude.
And some are quick to condemn and slow to praise.
*NOTE:  Schadenfreude is a feeling of enjoyment that
comes from seeing or hearing about the troubles of other
       people.

For the sake of Anger Management...

Get your Journal out
Write down all the things that upset you.

Then turn the page ~

Breathe ~ and write down . . .

All the things you are grateful for.
