The Writer's Comfort Levels ~ PART 14 ~ "Hate"

The Writer's Comfort Levels
PART 14
"Hate"

BLOG SESSION
February 10th, 2018

Welcome back to our fabulous Blog Session Friends, Writers, Authors, Novelists, Poets,  Journalists, Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors.

You'll need to roll up your sleeves and pull out your Journal to take notes as we go over today's Session concerning the emotion of "Hate"...

Journal Notes

We are currently dealing with the 14th emotion ("Hate") out of our 21 emotions in relation to The Writer's Comfort Levels.

What does the word "hate" mean to you when you first hear it?

Hate summons the feeling of intense or passionate dislike for (someone) or something.  Hate also brings about an intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or a sense of injury.

Make a note of those three (3) important factors as they relate to "hate":

1)  Fear;

2)  Anger; and/or a

3)  Sense of Injury.

In order to feel the emotion of "Hate", one or more of the above must be in operation.  There is either a "fear" of something or someone; an "anger" toward and/or related to something or someone; and/or a "sense of injury".

Imagine for a minute that someone hates another person because they fear that person inherently.  [For whatever reason].  Then, imagine for a minute that those fears are unfounded.

Now imagine a person hating another person because of an anger that has welled up inside of them for whatever reason.  Then, imagine for a second that the anger that is felt is totally misplaced.

Now turn your attention to the feeling of a "sense of injury".  And, imagine for a minute that someone has developed the emotion of "hate" toward another person because they have an underlying sense of injury.  Now, imagine that they are totally wrong for directing their hateful feelings because of their unfounded and misguided sense of injury.

Other words that may bring to mind the emotion of "hate" are the following synonyms:  hatred, loathing, detestation, dislike, distaste, abhorrence, aversion,  abomination, execration, hostility, odium, enmity, disgust, animosity, antipathy, revulsion, and contempt.

When dealing with the emotion of hate as a Writer, you will need to find a way to express hatred through your words as you deal with the events, interactions, feelings, emotions, and actions of your characters.

We teach our children not to use the word hate when describing something that they may dislike.  We teach young people to say, "I dislike this or that, but not I hate this or that."

Hate is a strong emotion that springs forth a new breed of what we now call the proverbial . . .

Why be a "Hater" in this day and age?

There is an underlying reason why we feel whatever emotion we may feel at any given point in time.  Trying to figure out why a person hates another person, a group of people, a certain culture, a certain race, a certain location, or any number of other items can be mind-boggling.

If you think about it for a minute, you will discover that trying to find out why people hate can be an easy or difficult task.  It all depends on the individual.  And, at the same time, knowing the reasons can help you to respond to the emotion of hate when you run into it.  Knowing why you feel what you feel on a personal level can also help you when you feel the emotion of "hate" swelling up inside of you.

People who HATE
walk around with weights on their back.

The emotion of "Hate" has a way of creeping up into the lines on your face.  Hate rolls around in your belly in a bad way.  Hate adds humps on your back, stress in your shoulders, tenseness to your muscles, and pain in your head.

Life is not pleasant for "Haters" ~ Please make a note of that.
For your Therapeutic Writing Project This Weekend
Journal your thoughts about "Love" and "Hate"

You'll discover a great deal about yourself in the process of working on your Therapeutic Writing Project this weekend.  Really think about the feelings that arise when you focus on "Love" and then when you turn your attention to the emotion of "Hate"...

Ask yourself as you think of both the emotion of "love" and then the emotion of "hate" -- do you feel the difference between the two emotions within your body?

Make a note of your feelings after you have written out your thoughts on these two emotions this weekend in your Journal.

Have a great evening, and we'll see you in our next Session!

The Writer's Comfort Levels ~ PART 9 "Grief"

"The Writer's Comfort Levels"
PART 9

BLOG SESSION
January 5th, 2018

Welcome back Blog Readers, Writers, Followers & Visitors.  We've got a lot to discuss in today's Blog Session.  You'll need to get your Journal once again to take notes on today's emotional topic.

If you have been following along with us regarding The Writer's Comfort Levels, then you will have taken notes on the following eight (8) emotions that we have already covered...

1)  Sadness (Sorrow)

2)  True intensity

3)  Joy

4)  Disappointment

5)  Wonder

6)  Curiosity

7)  Betrayal

8)  Hurt

9)  Grief

If you happened to have missed any of the eight (8) Blog Sessions, you may always catch up by scrolling down to view them, or you may look over in the far right-hand column here on the Blog to find the Session that you would like to review in our "Blog Archive".

In today's Blog Session we are going to cover the emotion of "Grief".  This is one of the emotions that happens to be a very sensitive and touchy area.

Grief is a multifaceted response to loss, particularly to the loss of someone or something that has died, to which a bond or affection was formed.  Although conventionally focused on the emotional response to loss, it also has physical, cognitive, behavioral, social, and philosophical dimensions.

As we all know, we all react to grief differently.  Grieving over a loved one who has passed on may be reacted to quite differently from grieving over a home that has been destroyed by a fire with possessions within that can never be replaced -- such as photographs of family members who have passed on.

Grieving over a relationship that has come to an end for any number of reasons may also cause another type of grief for those affected.  Relationships including friendships, marriages, close associations, co-workers, and/or individuals in a person's life who have played a large role in their life, but move on (be it slowly ~ fading out, or suddenly) and are no longer closely associated as before.

As a Writer, you must have an aptitude for writing in such a way that invokes the belief of the Reader.  When you are able to identify with the emotions that you write about, then you are also able to tap into these emotions on such a level that the characters in your story come alive.  The emotions of the characters as they journey through the storyline that you have plotted out for them will vary and change.

Reactions may be vastly differently when it comes to grief.  One person may go into a silent phase for hours, some may be silent for days at a time, others may be silent for what seems like months at a time, and when it comes to deep grief, it may take years for a person to truly grieve.  There may also be sudden outbursts out of nowhere when a person thinks about the death of a loved one or something that was dearly treasured.

Emotional reactions vary when it comes to grief.

If you have ever experienced grief in your life, then you will have a reference point by which to gage how you will express grief through your writings.

One way to get in touch with the emotion of grief for the purposes of learning how to write about it so that the Readers of your stories actually "feel" the grief you are expressing is to take a moment to write about a time in your life where you actually experienced grief.  Relive the emotions that you went through, and the timeframe -- how long did you grieve?  Do you even remember the period of time that it took for you to go past the stage of grief that most affected you?  Did you have a delayed reaction to grief?  Did you have loved ones who helped you during your time of grieving?

Using your Journal for writing out your own experiences with the emotions that we are covering in our Blog Sessions will serve you well as you write your books, novels, short stories, writing projects, and poetry.

BLOG SESSION
January 13th, 2018

Good Afternoon Writers, Artists, Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors ~ Just so that we are all clear here today, there is a way for you to jump into the creative zone...

If you were here for our last Blog Session, then you are up-to-date on our thoughts about having a Creative Journal for 2018, and about gearing up to write out your 2018 creative projects.  You also now have an idea of how you can use Post-it Notes to add to your creative flow as you place entries into your Creative Journal.  If you happened to have missed the last Session, you can simply scroll down after the end of this Session to see the last Session.  You may also find all previous Blog Sessions in our "Blog Archive" over in the far right-hand column.

If you are a Writer, then it helps a great deal if you use your artistic talent in addition to your enate literary abilities.  We all have the ability to be creative ~ whether some of us admit that or not.   I'm sure you've heard people say, "I can't draw a lick."  Well, they are wrong.  If you can write, you can draw.  If you can see, you can learn.

Abstract Artists have an area of skill that many art lovers have an affinity for . . .

Abstract Landscape

Does the above drawing look difficult to draw to you?  Does the above drawing invoke feelings that take your mind to another place?

Here's the deal, abstract artworks have a great deal of power.  The reason this is so is because abstract artworks tend to make you "think" ~ they are thought-provoking.

Abstract artworks will ask of you, "What can I make of what I am viewing?" . . .

Abstract Artwork
By Artist Theresa Paden

For some reason, drawing, painting, and even doodling are very relaxing artistic forms that you can practice to enhance the creativity that resides in you.

The above artwork by Theresa Paden is very inspirational.  The colors immediately make you relax, and also bring "hope" into view.  At least, that is the case for me personally.  There is nothing sad nor disturbing about the artwork.

Colors and their arrangement have meaning and stir up the spirit that resides within the viewer.  Depending upon your disposition, you will "see" and "feel" whatever lies within you.  If you are hopeful, you will see "hope".  If you are bitter, you will find that there is nothing appealing in an artwork that would bring joy to another viewer who is joyful.

ART has a way of speaking to your heart, mind and soul.

You are encouraged today to simply grab your Journal, drawing pad, notebook, blank sheet of paper, or whatever you have handy to create an artwork in whatever form you so desire.  If you simply want to doodle, do that ~ then add color with colored pencils or crayons -- you're never too old to use crayons!

The instruction for today is to
OPEN your EYES
and
do a new thing!
See you back here for the next exciting Blog Session!

California Wild Fire Report ~ OCTOBER 2017

California Wild Fire Report

BLOG SESSION
Friday
October 13th, 2017

Good Evening Diary Writers, Journalists, Historians, Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors...

Welcome back to the Blog.  If you are new here to the Blog, just to fill you in, we have been discussing the California wildfires for the past few Blog Sessions.  The devastating wildfires are making history in the worst possible way.  We are going to be discussing the latest news on the wildfires that are raging in the state of California.

Please grab your Journals and your Diaries for this Session.  We are going to be filling you in on some of the issues in connection with the relentless wildfires in California.

First, we'd like to make sure that everyone is aware of the fact that many of the fire victims are elderly.  At least 400 people are reported missing in Sonoma County alone, where a fire wiped out many homes in Santa Rosa, a city of about 175,000 people some 50 miles northwest of San Francisco.

The Elderly in times of Disaster

Please note that Sheriff Giordano advised that Deputies are having to wait for houses to cool before they can enter in to look for the missing.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office identified ten (10) victims Thursday, October 12th, 2017, and most of them were over 70 years of age.  The youngest was 57 years old, and the oldest was 95 years old.

Sonoma, Mendocino and Napa counties have been among the hardest hit by the fires.  Nearly 20% of the population in those counties is over 65, according to US Census Bureau data.

We must look after our Seniors.  If you are a resident living in the United States, you may remember what happened in Hollywood, Florida when Hurricane Irma came through and wiped out the electricity in a nursing home.  This caused the air conditioning to be knocked out, raising fears about the safety of Florida's four (4) million senior citizens amid power outages that could last for days.

Unfortunately, eight (8) patients at a sweltering nursing home died after Hurricane Irma knocked out the air conditioning.  The deaths at the Rehabilitation Centre were heat-related, and the building was immediately sealed off and a criminal investigation was conducted.

In light of those eight (8) deaths, Governor Rick Scott called on Florida emergency workers to immediately check on all nursing homes to make sure patients were safe, and he vowed to punish anyone found culpable in the deaths.  Governor Scott stated, "This situation is unfathomable."

California Wildfires

Currently in California ~

More than 20,000 people have been driven from their homes in Northern California.  The fast-moving wildfires continue to spread devastation and desperation.  Dozens are now dead.

There are ways that you can help those dealing with the fires, and ways you can get help if you're in need.  Organizations are on the ground providing emergency supplies to those affected.  If you live in Northern California, you can volunteer and donate aid through the Facebook page (Tubbs Fire - Info, Housing, Pets, Food (Lake/Sonoma/Mendo) - Public Group.  Facebook has also activated a safety check-in page.

Home Care Assistance is offering to help seniors in Napa and Sonoma evacuate safely and to transport their belongings.  Call (925) 817-0416.

The American Red Cross is also seeking volunteers to assist evacuees.

Wine County Animal Lovers is offering pet supplies to help evacuees keep their animals with them.

There are many other organizations offering assistance.  Check online for more information.  Connect with Impact Your World on Facebook and follow CNN on Twitter @ CNNImpact.

California Wildfires ~ Devastation

California Wildfires ~ Devastation

BLOG SESSION
October 12th, 2017

Today is a new day, and we are looking at an image at the top of this Blog that is being seen in the state of California in more that one place, and in more than one city.  It is a grim scene in many areas, and in Sonoma County, authorities had to turn to dental records, fingerprints, tattoos and serial numbers on hip implants to identify victims.

I'm not sure if you have been following the news reports or not, or if you have been following along here on the Blog as we have been discussing the California wildfires, which don't seem to be going anywhere at the moment.

The question for all Blog Readers today is this:  Is this happening, along with devastating hurricanes, earthquakes, and general unrest in different Countries about political leadership because of incompetent leaders, global warming, dissatisfaction with life overall, or because of greed and evil?

As some people return to their homes, they are finding ashes -- for the most part, mainly ashes . . .

California Wildfires ~ Devastation

Fires are still raging on ~

California Firefighters are still working tirelessly

Air attempts to tackle the wildfires

The deadly fires have leveled thousands of homes and forced evacuations in Northern California's wine country.  In addition, the wildfires have produced unhealthy air quality in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The biggest fires in Northern California were far from contained.

There is the Atlas fire involving 48,000-plus acres in Napa and Solano counties ~ 27% contained.

The 44,000-acre Nuns fire in Sonoma County is an amalgamation of three recently merged fires north and west of Glen Ellen, and was listed as 5% contained.

Then, there is the 34,000-acre Tubbs fire in Napa and Sonoma counties which was 25% under control, and the 34,000-acre Redwood and Potter fires in Mendocino County which were 10% contained.

In terms of residential destruction, more than 2,800 homes have been destroyed by the wildfires in Santa Rosa, Mayor Chris Coursey told reporters on Thursday.  The number of destroyed structures in the state exceeds 3,500 Cal Fire has reported.

For your Journals and Diaries, on the California Wildfires, please make the following additional notes....

Journal/Diary Notes

History Notes for 2017:  List everything that has happened thus far this year that is making history.  In addition, make sure that you make a note of your frame of mind, your feelings about the environment, your thoughts about the leadership of your country, and your emotional as well as mental health at this time.

FOR YOUR RECORDS:
The California wildfires have burned more than 221,000 acres throughout California, and 17 fires remained as of Thursday, October 12th, 2017.

Winds are expected to be especially gusty Friday right through Saturday.  Those conditions, joined with low humidity, could spread the flames drastically, the National Weather Service warns.  No rain is expected for almost a week.

May everything that you put your hands to prosper, and may your mind, body and soul find peace in knowing that you are living your best life to the best of your abilities.

God bless ~
