Let's head to . . .
The business of PUBLISHING!
BLOG SESSION
December 9th, 2017
Good Evening Blog Readers, Writers, Followers & Visitors ~ Welcome back for another delightful Session. This evening we are going to be talking about the business of PUBLISHING your Novel.
Now is the time to grab you Journals so that you can take notes . . .
Journal Notes
This Session is for all Writers here who have written your Novel, but you have no idea of how to get your Novel published or how to get your Novel into bookstores.
Let's assume for the moment that you are a first-time author, and you are not interested in self-publishing your Novel. In this case, you will need to check into a Literary Agent. A Literary Agent stands as the gatekeeper of the publishing world. Your Literary Agent is the one who will represent you as an Author and your written works to publishers, theatrical producers, film producers, and film studios. Your Literary Agent also assists in the sale and deal negotiation of your work. In most cases Literary Agents represent Novelists, Screenwriters, and non-fiction writers. They are paid a fixed percentage of the proceeds of sales they negotiate on behalf of their clients.
The first thing you'll need to do is to make sure that your Novel (Manuscript) is finished and well-edited. You may like to have your Manuscript professionally edited. You should only pitch to your Literary Agent your absolute best work.
The next thing you will need to do is research potential Literary Agents. Find a Guide to Literary Agents and do your homework. You'll find that almost every Literary Agent hosts a Website, and you will want to get in contact with them to get the most up-to-date information available to you.
Make a list of all of the Literary Agents that represent your type of work. The genre that your Novel is written under has an impact on which Literary Agent you should choose. There are Literary Agents that cover every genre: Christian Books, Romance Novels, Science Fiction, Children's Books, Young Adult, non-fiction, Memoirs, Self-Help Books, and so on.
Ask other Authors how they published their work.
Be sure to check with other Authors that you know and ask them how they went about publishing their work. You'll find Authors online as well as sites for the specific purpose of sharing knowledge about writing and publishing. Take a little time to check online for further insight and information that you will find useful to you!
