Creating your Book Cover

"Creating your Book Cover"

BLOG SESSION
April 9th, 2018

Good Evening Blog Readers, Writers, Authors, Followers & Visitors~  We're back for another great Session, and there are many Writers following along who are in the middle of writing their next great novel during the month of April 2018.  Many of our Readers are working on their Writing Project in Camp NaNoWriMo.  If you have already signed up to participate, then you are just beginning your first steps to a great Spring writing experience!

Our topic today is designing your own Book Cover.

Sample Book Cover Design

Most Writers have been warned against making their own book covers because the Book Cover is way too crucial an element to self-publishing success to take lightly.

If you are interested in self-publishing your Novel, then you definitely do not want to have an ugly book cover sabotaging your diligent efforts or your success.  Of course, you'd like your book to be a Bestseller!

If you have already started the process of designing your own Book Cover, then please leave us your comments here on the Blog on how you went about creating your book cover.  We'd love to hear other creative ideas.

For all of the Authors & Writers here who are working on their Novel this Spring, you may have already discovered the many reasons why you'd like to try your hand at creating your own Book Cover despite the nay-sayers.  You may inherently be an Artist as well as an Author.  Designing a book cover comes naturally to the Artist.  Especially for those who are graphic designers.

You should play with cover ideas so that you can get a good feel for how you'd like your cover to look.

Some of you may want to hire a Book Cover Designer to complete the design of your book cover, and that is fine too.  However, you may still want to create a draft of how you'd like your book cover to look and then give the draft sample to the Designer as a springboard idea from the author for the Designer to work from.

If you want more control over your Book Cover, then of course, you'd like to create it yourself.  Below is a sample book cover design template, and you may find many other templates that you can work from by researching "Book Cover Design"...

You may be working on a short story, an educational guide, a self-help short, or a poetry book that you do not want to invest a great deal of money, time, or effort looking for a book cover designer.  In that case, you should definitely create your own book cover.

This also holds true for those Writers here who are working on a Series, and you don't want to pay full price for each book cover design.

You can use Photoshop, Microsoft Word, or Publisher.  You can use Templates!

Be sure to leave your thoughts, ideas, questions, suggestions and all comments in our "Comments Section" at the bottom of any of our Blog Sessions.

Have a great evening and happy novel writing ~ See you back here on the Blog tomorrow!

Novelist at work at writing 50,000 words!

BLOG SESSION
November 4th, 2017

Good Afternoon Novelists ~ It is Saturday, November 4th, 2017 and we are all working on our fantastic Novels this month.  As you all know, this is National Novel Writing Month, and we are excited about getting another Novel written this year.

We have been discussing the various literary genres that we are all choosing from in terms of the selection of the subject matter and area our Novel will be based on.  Many Writers head for the area of Fiction, but there are so many other areas that we have to choose from.  Check out our previous Blog Sessions to see a few of the genres we have covered already...

Also, we discussed participating online in NaNoWriMo in our previous Blog Session entitled . . .

When it comes to the Genre you choose, whatever your genre, be it Fiction, Fantasy, Chick Lit, Epic, Tragedy, Comedy, Creative Non-Fiction, Drama, Horror Fiction, Literary Realism, Romance, Tragic Comedy, Mythology, Classic, Legend, Folklore, Crime/Detective, Fable, Fairy Tale, Fan Fiction, Fiction Narrative, Historical Fiction, Horror, Humor, Legend, Magical Realism, Meta Fiction, Mystery, Mythology, Mythopoeia, Picture Book, Realistic Fiction, Science Fiction, Short Story, Suspense/Thriller, Tall Tale, Western, Biography, Autobiography, Essay, Owner's Manual, Journalism, Lab Report, Memoir, Narrative Non-Fiction, Personal Narrative, Reference Book, Self-Help Book, Speech, Textbook, Instruction Manual, Adventure Novel, Imaginary Voyage, Political Fiction, Political Thriller, Pulp Fiction, Religious Fiction, Contemporary Christian Fiction, Islamic Fiction, Jewish Fiction, Saga, Family Saga, Paranormal, Alien Adventure, Mythic, Urban Fantasy, Supernatural, Didactic,  Commentary, Diary, Journal, Manuscript, Poetry, Religious Text, Prophecy, Revelation, Biblical Theology, or a Scientific Writing . . . remember, the possibilities are endless!

Be sure to do your research online relative to the Genre that you are choosing for your Novel.  You'll be sure to gravitate to a certain genre once you have an idea of what your Novel will be about, or once you start typing or writing away in your Journal.  In addition, further research about the genre you are choosing will open your eyes further to what types of Novels are already published in your genre area.

Take time to look around online at the Books that are written and published in your Genre area.  Also, check out the Book Stores and spend a few hours browsing around in the various genre areas . . .

Your Novel is sure to be a joy to write.  As you work on writing your Novel online, keep an idea in your head as to how your Novel Cover will look.

Last year, I had thought about the Novel Cover for the novel I am working on this month, entitled, "HouseCapades".  I had written a short story about "HouseCapades" that was published and included in an Anthology entitled, "Twisted Shorties II", written by Pam Brittain, Compiler, A.F. Stewart, Author, and many other Authors and Poets from our late Gather Community (now off line), and I decided I'd write a Novel with the same title this year for National Novel Writing Month on  NaNoWriMo...

Luckily for me, a friend who has an awesome artistic talent was kind enough to offer her skill with designing the Novel Cover for HouseCapades long ago, which I am currently working on...

Isn't Francine Langlois an awesome Artist!?  I'm so impressed every time I look at any artwork that she creates!

I'll ask her if I can share her link with everyone here.

See you in our next Blog Session dear Novelists!
