There's something about picking up your PEN . . .

There's something about picking up your PEN . . .

BLOG SESSION
November 27th, 2017

Good Morning Blog Readers, Followers, Visitors, and definitely all Writers ~ welcome back!

If you are a Writer, then we're glad you are here with us this morning.  We are all working towards our writing projects this month, and many of us are busy finishing up our Novels on NaNoWriMo for National Novel Writing Month.

You are all welcome to view previous Blog Sessions that have been going on this month by scrolling down and taking a look at the previous recent Sessions, or by looking over in the far right-hand column to see any of the Blog Sessions that have been published from inception of this Blog (2014) to date.

There is something about picking up your PEN to write that excites the Writer in all of us.  The flow of ink on the paper is the first step to getting your Novel written.  As the words flow, your mind tends to develop a sense of what your Novel cover should look like.  At some point, this thought process will grab you and cause you to just stop to grab the vision before it escapes you.

Writer thinking about Novel cover design

One important point about writing your Novel is the design of your Book Cover.  It takes a little time and thought to figure out what you'd like your Book Cover to look like.  It is also helpful to have an Artist that is talented to assist with the vision that you may have for your Book Cover.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to have a dear friend from our Artistic Community help me with the design of my Book Cover for the Novel that I had in mind for NaNoWriMo.  Great talent makes it a lot easier, and Francine Langlois is a very talented and gifted Artist.  Let me just show you one of the designs that Francine came up with . . .

BOOK COVER DESIGN BY ARTIST FRANCINE LANGLOIS

Talk about being thrilled when I saw the design!  I'm very happy to have met Francine online, and even more proud to say that I know a little about her beautiful artworks from being privy to some of her designs.

Thank you very much Francine.  I really appreciate what you have created, and I hope that you won't forget me as you design more fabulous artworks and book cover designs.

I truly hope that all Writers, Authors, Novelists, and everyone writing books will be fortunate enough to find someone as talented as Francine to help with the design of their Book Covers.

Of course, you have not seen the last of Francine Langlois ~ look forward to seeing more of her awesome artistic designs in the future!

Novelist at work at writing 50,000 words!

BLOG SESSION
November 4th, 2017

Good Afternoon Novelists ~ It is Saturday, November 4th, 2017 and we are all working on our fantastic Novels this month.  As you all know, this is National Novel Writing Month, and we are excited about getting another Novel written this year.

We have been discussing the various literary genres that we are all choosing from in terms of the selection of the subject matter and area our Novel will be based on.  Many Writers head for the area of Fiction, but there are so many other areas that we have to choose from.  Check out our previous Blog Sessions to see a few of the genres we have covered already...

BLOG SESSIONS: (click on links to view)...

Also, we discussed participating online in NaNoWriMo in our previous Blog Session entitled . . .

When it comes to the Genre you choose, whatever your genre, be it Fiction, Fantasy, Chick Lit, Epic, Tragedy, Comedy, Creative Non-Fiction, Drama, Horror Fiction, Literary Realism, Romance, Tragic Comedy, Mythology, Classic, Legend, Folklore, Crime/Detective, Fable, Fairy Tale, Fan Fiction, Fiction Narrative, Historical Fiction, Horror, Humor, Legend, Magical Realism, Meta Fiction, Mystery, Mythology, Mythopoeia, Picture Book, Realistic Fiction, Science Fiction, Short Story, Suspense/Thriller, Tall Tale, Western, Biography, Autobiography, Essay, Owner's Manual, Journalism, Lab Report, Memoir, Narrative Non-Fiction, Personal Narrative, Reference Book, Self-Help Book, Speech, Textbook, Instruction Manual, Adventure Novel, Imaginary Voyage, Political Fiction, Political Thriller, Pulp Fiction, Religious Fiction, Contemporary Christian Fiction, Islamic Fiction, Jewish Fiction, Saga, Family Saga, Paranormal, Alien Adventure, Mythic, Urban Fantasy, Supernatural, Didactic,  Commentary, Diary, Journal, Manuscript, Poetry, Religious Text, Prophecy, Revelation, Biblical Theology, or a Scientific Writing . . . remember, the possibilities are endless!

Be sure to do your research online relative to the Genre that you are choosing for your Novel.  You'll be sure to gravitate to a certain genre once you have an idea of what your Novel will be about, or once you start typing or writing away in your Journal.  In addition, further research about the genre you are choosing will open your eyes further to what types of Novels are already published in your genre area.

Take time to look around online at the Books that are written and published in your Genre area.  Also, check out the Book Stores and spend a few hours browsing around in the various genre areas . . .

Your Novel is sure to be a joy to write.  As you work on writing your Novel online, keep an idea in your head as to how your Novel Cover will look.

Last year, I had thought about the Novel Cover for the novel I am working on this month, entitled, "HouseCapades".  I had written a short story about "HouseCapades" that was published and included in an Anthology entitled, "Twisted Shorties II", written by Pam Brittain, Compiler, A.F. Stewart, Author, and many other Authors and Poets from our late Gather Community (now off line), and I decided I'd write a Novel with the same title this year for National Novel Writing Month on  NaNoWriMo...

Luckily for me, a friend who has an awesome artistic talent was kind enough to offer her skill with designing the Novel Cover for HouseCapades long ago, which I am currently working on...

Isn't Francine Langlois an awesome Artist!?  I'm so impressed every time I look at any artwork that she creates!

I'll ask her if I can share her link with everyone here.

Book Cover Design

BLOG SESSION
July 2017

Good Afternoon Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors!
Today, we will be discussing Book Cover Design.  For all Writers, Authors, Novelists, Aspiring Authors, Emerging Authors, Poets, and Creative Writers, we are going to take a moment to focus on Book Cover Design.

If you are writing a Novel or a Book of any kind, one of the things that you need to have in mind is your Book Cover.  How will it look?  How will it be designed?  What color or colors will you chose?  What Style Book Binding would you like to see your book wrapped in?  Is your book better suited for Hard-Cover or soft-cover?  Are you going to gear your book to be an e-book?

Those are some of the questions you should write down in your Journal for today's notes.

Journal Notes

If you have your Journal out, the first thing you should make a note of for today is what you'd like to have on your Novel or Book Cover.  It would be a good idea to go to the Library or Book Store and check out some of the Book Covers.  You can also look at the Book Covers that you have at home or those online to get an idea of the Styles that you like.

For instance, take a look at the following Book without any design inserted on it . . .

Book Example without Artistic Book Cover Design

Visually speaking, make a note of the spine of the Book, then imagine the same book in a different color.  Then imagine the same book without the ridges on the spine.

Take a look at the following example . . .

Book Example without Artistic Book Cover Design

Notice the red color that is inside the bottom right corner of the back Book Cover.  The little details about Books that people may not realize catches the eye -- are the very details that draw attention, and are the attraction that captures buyers seeking to purchase good Books.

It has been said that you cannot judge a book by its cover, but I'd have to say otherwise.  Many people purchase books because of the visually attractive Book Covers!

I personally gravitate to books that have beautifully designed Book Covers.  If you are a visual person, then you are probably the same way--you like attractive Book Covers. There is a book that I purchased by Katherine Neville entitled, "The Eight" . . .

Out of all of the Book Covers above of "The Eight" by Katherine Neville, which Book Cover do you think I chose?  It is the same book with a different cover (smiles ~ I believe ~ there could be something a little different in each one ~ who knows?).  Well, just for the record, I chose the third one from the top . . .

Book Covers make a difference!

Think about your Book Cover.  There are Book Cover Designers that design and create Book Covers for a living.  You may possibly be a good Book Cover Designer if you are an Artist!

We'll be back with another interesting
Topic of Discussion!

Until then Friends ~

Keep Writing!

Peace, Love & Light,

René
