BLOG SESSION
January 6th, 2018

Good Afternoon Poets, Writers, and all Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors ~ We are back for another exciting Blog Session that is focused on Poetry Books.  Surely, all the Poets of our Blog will find this Session interesting, but so will the Lovers of Poetry, and those Writers here with us who try their hand at poetry writing every now and then.

If you are a Poet, or a lover of poetry, it is pretty understandable if you have a bookshelf that contains a few very nice Poetry Books written by some famous, and in many cases -- not so famous Poets.  Your poetry is worthy of being bound in a book!

We've all heard certain names, and read the poetry of most of the famous Poets of our time.  Like who has not heard of Edgar Allan Poe ~ whose book of poetry is pictured at the top of this Blog (with Illustrations inside by W. Heath Robinson).

Edgar Allan Poe

One of the most famous of Poe's poems is "The Raven", which is a narrative poem by this well known American Writer.  Edgar Allan Poe's poem was first published in January 1845.  The poem is often noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere.  It tells of a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distraught lover, tracing the man's slow fall into madness.  The lover, often identified as being a student, is lamenting the loss of his love, Lenore. Sitting on a bust of Pallas, the raven seems to further instigate his distress with its constant repetition of the word "Nevermore".  The poem makes use of a number of folk, mythological, religious, and classical references.

In a previous Blog Session, we discussed the fabulous idea of making a Poetry Journal.  If you are a Poet, then you can appreciate having a wonderful Journal just for your poetry writings.  You can be very creative with your Poetry Journal by decorating it and placing embellishments on your Journal that speak to your heart.  Making your Poetry Journal personal and attractive will inspire you to write in it.

Poetry Journal for the Poet

For this Session, please grab your Poetry Journal dear friends.  It does not have to be decorated yet.  And, if you do not yet have your Poetry Journal, you have a little time to pick one up and start thinking about how you'd like to decorate it.  The point is, we would like to start writing in our Journals.

Get your poetry cap out, and be sure to check back in here for our next Blog Session where we will discuss how to get your Poetry Journal decorated and how to work on unique poetry creations!

Writers & Poets

Writers & Poets

BLOG SESSION
January 5th, 2018

Good Morning to all Writers & Poets following along here on the Blog.  As an Overview, if you've been following along here with us, then you will be familiar with the last few Blog Sessions we had wherein we discussed the benefits to Writers of using "AFFIRMATIONS".

Also shared here on the Blog in two previous Sessions were two poems that I had previously written years ago:  The 1st poem, "SHADOWS of DEPRESSION"; and the 2nd poem, "Violin Dreams".  The first poem was in follow up to our discussion about the question many Writers ask when they feel sad or depressed ~ "How do I write when I  may feel sad or depressed?"  The poem expressed certain feelings that Writers/Poets may have or thoughts that may go through their mind during depressive or grieving episodes.

You may also remember that we discussed keeping a Poetry Journal to write your poetics in.  This was a suggestion for all Writers, as well as Poets.  Poetry Writing is relaxing.  Writing poetry also helps you to keep in touch with what is going on inside of you.  Poetry Writing is also extremely helpful for those following along who are Empaths.  (Empathic Discussion coming up in another Blog Session).

We'll be pointing out other areas to focus on in terms of writing as it relates to Poets in our upcoming Blog Sessions.  Writing is not always about the Author/Poet so much as it may be about the people or a person around the Author or Poet.  Unconsciously, we take in the feelings and emotions of those around us -- some of us so this more than others.

Depression affects many people, but there is always help available.  Writing ~ for those of us who are Writers, Authors, Poets, Journalists, Novelists, and other style/genre writers, we've come to find that writing can be very therapeutic for us.  We are people who have emotions, and unless you are a person who is as cold as ice, you should be able to feel the emotions of those around you to a certain degree and on a certain level.

On those days when you do not feel like working on your book or writing another chapter of your Novel, it is suggested that you at least take the time to write in your Diary...

Spend moments writing in your Diary
on a daily basis

The main reason we stress writing in your Diary on a daily basis is because it benefits you in so many ways.  Writing in your Diary helps you to loosen up and let your writing flow; helps you to get in touch with your feelings and emotions; helps you to find out if you have the wrong thought patterns going on in your head; helps you to express yourself and evaluate if you may have the wrong concept of what you are experiencing in life; helps you to stay on task; helps you to keep your goals in the forefront of your mind; helps you to find out if you are harboring anything negative in your heart; and most of all, helps you to understand the direction your writing style should take.

We'll be back for much MORE!  See you in the next Blog Session Writers & Poets ~

Violin Dreams by René Allen

"Violin Dreams" by René Allen

With my bow,

I tell a story

of my violin dreams

And with my
fine-tuned four strings

my violin dreams

sometimes come forth

as I plead the
fifth

on my unfretted fingerboard

The flexibility of
the range of sound ~

the depth of tone,

and the dynamics of
artistic ability

flow through me ~

uplift me,

and introduce me to
the "self" I did not know

Sweet ~ the sound

immense ~ the touch

that expands beyond words

from music that arose

from my...

Violin Dreams

And for you ~

there is no end...

because Violin dreams live on ~

For they make house-calls

and the dreamer hears the sound of it,

but knows not where it comes from ~

or where it is headed next

Can you hear the sound of it?

Can you maintain the "feel" of it?

Have you ventured there ~

to the place

where Violin Dreams

are made?

DREAMER:

Here is a bow for you ~

Do use it wisely...

AFFIRMATIONS

BLOG SESSION
January 3rd, 2018

Welcome back to the Blog dear Friends ~ It's a new year, and a new day, and we are going to start this new year off on a positive note.  We're here today to get you going for the year.  Our aim is to keep in our minds that we want to write a book in 2018.

With book writing in mind, and keeping in line with that frame of thought, we are going to discuss Affirmations.  The reason we are turning to affirmations is because by focusing on affirmations that ring true for us, we will be taking the action necessary to frame our world.  We will also be concentrating on affirming something that we expect to bring positive results into our lives.

Here is an example of an affirmation that you may like to add to your Journal Notes for today...

Affirmation for 2018

With your Affirmations before you (on a magnet on the refrigerator) or on your desk on a plack, or in your Journal that you turn to daily ~ you'll have words before you each day that uplift your spirit, and keep you focused on constructive and positive thoughts that will lead to progressive actions for your best and highest good.

Let us suppose that you may be feeling melancholy for some unknown reason.  Maybe the Holidays made you a little sad or tired.  Or maybe you are dragging because you are a little tired from all of the hustle bustle.  You may be facing a challenge in your life.  It could be possible that you have been recently disappointed about something.  Well, fear not, here is an affirmation for you . . .

Affirmation for a positive outlook

Many of our friends here reading along with us today may be very familiar with using affirmations.  If you have not heard of affirmations before, then now is a good time to find out how they may work for you.

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you overcome self-sabotaging, negative thoughts.

The reason why we had made it a point to discuss (in previous Blog Sessions) the topic of using a daily diary, is because the process of doing so helps you to get a grip on your thoughts and your emotions, and it will also help you to understand any negative thoughts or attitudes that you are toting around with you in life.

Negative Thoughts
Bad Attitudes
Sour Disposition
[Luggage needing to be unloaded for 2018]

Negative thoughts, bad attitudes and sour dispositions have no place in the year 2018.  Please make a note of that in your Journal.  This is the type of luggage that needs to be unloaded.  We have no reason to carry any of this type of  luggage into our new year.  Nor do we have any reason to have people around us who are carrying this type of luggage around with them, because they may try to unload it on us.  And we are not going for any of that in this new year.  Let's all make that clear right here, right now.

To use affirmations, first analyze the thoughts or behaviors you'd like to change in your own life and career. Next, come up with positive, credible, present tense statements that are the opposite of these thoughts.

The way to check your thoughts is to turn to your trusty daily diary that will never lie to you as long as you are honest with it in your writings.

Daily Diary

We're going to leave you with your Diary to do a little fact checking with yourself today and this evening.  Then, we'll be back with our next Blog Session for more great tips to keep you headed in the right direction . . .

Writers ~ Let's get started!

Writers ~ Let's get started!

BLOG SESSION
January 2nd, 2018

Well, now that you have had your new year's day moment to reflect, and you've had a chance to inhale and exhale, it is now time to breathe again and get it in gear to start writing.

Journal Notes

All you need for today's Blog Session is your trusty Journal...

If you did happen to get a chance to get your Diary as was suggested in our previous Blog Session, then you should have taken a moment on the 1st day of this new year to start writing about your feelings and emotions as you stepped into another year of your life.  Believe me, by the time the year is coming to an end once again, you will be glad that you have a Diary that you can read that tells you all about your self.  No one knows you better that your soul.

Writing your heart-felt thoughts helps you to stay in touch with what is going on with you.  Like we discussed in a previous Session, the practice of daily diary writing is very therapeutic.

If you don't have a Diary yet, use your notebook or notepad for now.

Today, turn your attention to your Journal for a moment...

Take a moment to write down which genre you are going to write under.  If you are deciding between a few different genres, then write which genres those are in your Journal.

Please make a note of this information in your Journal:  Genres of literature are important to learn about. The two main categories separating the different genres of literature are fiction and nonfiction. There are several genres of literature that fall under the nonfiction category. Nonfiction sits in direct opposition to fiction.

Here is further information to help you out...

Types of Nonfiction:

Narrative Nonfiction is information based on fact that is presented in a format which tells a story.

Essays are a short literary composition that reflects the author’s outlook or point.  A short literary composition on a particular theme or subject, usually in prose and generally analytic, speculative, or interpretative.

Biography is a written account of another person’s life.

An Autobiography gives the history of a person’s life, written or told by that person.  Often written in Narrative form of the person’s life.

Speech is the faculty or power of speaking; oral communication; ability to express one’s thoughts and emotions by speech, sounds, and gesture.  Generally delivered in the form of an address or discourse.

Finally there is the general genre of Nonfiction.  This is Informational text dealing with an actual, real-life subject. This genre of literature offers opinions or conjectures on facts and reality.  This includes biographies, history, essays, speech, and narrative nonfiction.  Nonfiction opposes fiction and is distinguished from those fiction genres of literature like poetry and drama which is the next section we will discuss.

Writer

Genres of Fiction:

Drama is the genre of literature that is the subject for compositions.  It is considered dramatic art in the way it is represented.  This genre consists of stories composed in verse or prose, usually for theatrical performance, where conflicts and emotion are expressed through dialogue and action.

Poetry is verse and rhythmic writing with imagery that evokes an emotional response from the reader.  The art of poetry is rhythmical in composition, written or spoken.  This genre of literature is for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts.

Fantasy is the forming of mental images with strange or other worldly settings or characters; fiction which invites suspension of reality.

Humor is the faculty of perceiving what is amusing or comical.  Fiction full of fun, fancy, and excitement is meant to entertain.  This genre of literature can actually be seen and contained within all genres.

Fable is a story about supernatural or extraordinary people -- usually in the form of narration that demonstrates a useful truth.  In Fables, animals often speak as humans.  This genre includes legendary and supernatural tales.

Fairy Tales or wonder tales are a kind of folktale or fable. Sometimes the stories are about fairies or other magical creatures, usually for children.

Science Fiction is a story based on impact of potential science, either actual or imagined.  Science fiction is one of the genres of literature that is set in the future or on other planets (real or made up).

Short Story is fiction of such briefness that it is not able to support any subplots.

Realistic Fiction is a story that can actually happen and is true to real life.

Folklore are songs, stories, myths, and proverbs of a person of “folk” that was handed down by word of mouth.  Folklore is a genre of literature that is widely held, but false and based on unsubstantiated beliefs.

Historical Fiction is a story with fictional characters and events in a historical setting.

Horror is an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by literature that is frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting. Fiction in which events evoke a feeling of dread in both the characters and the reader.

Tall Tale is a humorous story with blatant exaggerations, swaggering heroes who do the impossible in a nonchalant way.

Legend is a story that sometimes involves a national or folk hero.  Legend is based on fact but also includes imaginative material.

Mystery is a genre of fiction that deals with the solution of a crime or the unraveling of secrets.  Anything that is kept secret or remains unexplained or unknown.

Mythology is a type of legend or traditional narrative.  This is often based in part on historical events, that reveals human behavior and natural phenomena by its symbolism; often pertaining to the actions of the gods.  A body of myths, as that of a particular people or that relating to a particular person.

Fiction in Verse is full-length novels with plot, subplots, themes, with major and minor characters.  Fiction of verse is one of the genres of literature in which the narrative is usually presented in blank verse form.

The genre of Fiction can be defined as narrative literary works whose content is produced by the imagination and is not necessarily based on fact.  In fiction something is feigned, invented, or imagined; a made-up story.
