Short Story Tip Time

3rd Installment

Tuesday, April 18th, 2017

We're starting this day off bright and early with another dose of our Short Story Tip Time.  We will learn a little more about writing a short story.  We'll also find out more avenues to gain inspiration.

Don't forget to pull your Journals out for this Session so that you can add on to the Notes that you have accumulated thus far.

One thing for you to remember as you get ready to write your short story ~ be comfortable starting off small.  Writing a short story is the beginning of great things ahead.  Though it may seem like a small start, believe me, it is not small at all.  As mentioned before, many Novelists have started off with short stories.

Writing a good short story will force you to create and develop a great character and take a plot from beginning to end in a limited number of pages.  It is also great preparation for writing the Novel that lays deep in your heart.

Remember, each chapter of a Novel is basically a short story.  For new Writers, writing a short story is also much less intimidating than writing a Novel.  Not that you are fearful of course.  As a Writer, you can have no fear.  You must always press through, and stop holding yourself back from the Writing "gift" that is inside of you.

If Fiction is the genre that you are heading towards, remember to keep an open mind towards learning from others about voice, plot structure, character development, and general story-telling knowledge which you will come to find invaluable.

Other Writers and aspiring authors can provide inspiration as well as motivation for you.  Getting involved with a Group of Writers is an excellent way to keep your momentum going once you get started putting your short story together.  You'll find the encouragement to work harder and keep going on your short story efforts.

For all Short Story Writers who are interested in writing a Novel, another way to keep your Writing moving is to get involved in National Novel Writing Month every November.  You can get moving on writing your Novel by going online and registering with NaNoWriMo.org.

During National Novel Writing Month, you can learn how to write a Novel in a month.  You'll also be able to track your progress which will help you tremendously in terms of inspiration.  In addition, you will be able to get pep talks and support.  There are others online with you, and you can get advice online in the Forums and also meet up with the Writers in your area in person.

During the Spring (April 2017) and Summer months, you can participate in Camp NaNoWriMo where you can create a Writing Project and set your own goal.   This month the goal for participants in the Spring Camp is locked in and set by April 20th, 2017 by each participant for their writing project.  If you are interested in finding out more about Camp NaNoWriMo, be sure to click on the link, register, and check it out.  It is all free.  Most participants donate to this worthy cause to help encourage aspiring Authors and Writers of all genres.  You'll find me there at Camp, although I have not yet set a goal for this month yet.  But I think I will since I still have 13 days left.  If by chance I don't do it this month, I'll seek to do so in the next Camp Session.  Visit me at Camp NaNoWriMo . . . Hopefully, this Short Story Tip Time Session provided you with a little something to get you connected with other Writers in advance of National Novel Writing Month so that you may participate this year in November (if you have not yet done so), and get your Novel written.  You'll be so glad that you did.  So, don't hesitate, register and look around on the Site.

We will return tomorrow with more Short Story Tip Time!

~ See you tomorrow back here with your Journal ~

Peace, Love & Light,

  René
