The Feng Shui Writer

The Feng Shui Writer

BLOG SESSION
January 25, 2018

Welcome back Writers ~ We are here today to talk about The Feng Shui Writer.  If you are wondering what a Feng Shui Writer is, it is the Writer who operates in a Feng Shui environment.  The general principle is a space that encompasses harmony.

Feng Shui or fengshui (pinyin: fēngshuǐ, pronounced [fə́ŋ.ʂwèi]  ((About this sound listen)) is Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. It is closely linked to Taoism.  The term feng shui literally translates as "wind-water" in English.  This is a cultural shorthand taken from the passage of the now-lost Classic of Burial recorded in Guo Pu's commentary:  Feng shui is one of the Five Arts of Chinese Metaphysics, classified as physiognomy (observation of appearances through formulas and calculations).  The feng shui practice discusses architecture in metaphoric terms of "invisible forces" that bind the universe, earth, and humanity together, known as qi.

If you take a look at the Writer's workspace at the top of our Blog Session here today, you'll notice numbers throughout the Writer's workspace.  Let's take a moment to correlate those numbers with the feng shui meaning...

1.  Think Outside the Thumbtack
Wall-mounted straps take up little room but can hold all manner of bright and practical things.  Envision something along the lines of wall-mounted straps versus the plain board that you see mounted to the wall.  Of course, you can choose to let the mounted board stay in place and add harmonizing additions to that particular wall.

2. Boost Color
Enliven a depressingly gray cubicle or home office workspace with color accents like patterned file folders that you see in the space at the top of our Blog Session.  And you'll notice a square box space with inside color to hold papers located next to the desk drawers.

3. Block Out the Din (loud, unpleasant and/or prolonged noise)
Rather than nagging co-workers or those in the vicinity of your home work space to lower their phone voices, shut them out entirely.  Get a good pair of noise-isolating earphones, such as earbuds which have a mute clicker on the cable for when you do want to hear your neighbors.

4. Be the All-Seeing Eye
A rear-view mirror on your monitor not only warns you when someone is approaching, but it is also supposedly good feng shui.

5. See the Light
Overhead lights often don’t reach cubicles.  If your furniture set-up does not allow for lower cubicle panels, import something sleek like an Antenna lamp.

6. Add an Oddity
“Things around you should bring a smile to your face.”  As you can see in the picture at the top of our Blog Session today, there is a spot (6) for a fancy paper-clip holder or some other small desk accessory that just might just do the trick.

7. Grow Something
A bright and leafy, six-inch peace lily doesn’t need much light and requires water only once a week.  You may want to grow a peace lily or some other nice plant that suits you in the space numbered (7).

8. Sit Right
For aching backs (or for the prevention of aching backs), you may want to take the advice of a  knowledgeable chiropractor, and try the highly recommended Back Vitalizer, which looks like your average chair cushion but keeps your back far more mobile.  “A body that’s not in motion is more vulnerable to injury.”

9. Feel the Breeze
A small fan under your desk creates a little bit of white noise and helps circulate air flow—which is always good for general health.

10. Don’t Get Tripped
Tangled cords signify a tangled mind.  Zip all your wires together in a nifty neoprene coverlet.

Your writing space should be a place where you feel relaxed and at ease.  You should feel good each time you enter into your writing space.  Keeping disturbances out of your writing space is essential.

As an added touch, you may want to place a "Do Not Disturb" Sign in your space which alerts onlookers to the sacred space that you embrace as you work on your writings.
