Lady Liberty Weeps ~ Part IV

Lady Liberty Weeps
Part IV

BLOG SESSION
October 30th, 2017

Welcome back Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors ~
We have had a short break from our Sessions, and now we're back here to continue our discussion about "Lady Liberty Weeps" . . . It's time for Part IV.

The main item of business is the question of why Lady Liberty Weeps?

We're living in a time when people all over the world are experiencing all kinds of issues in a deeper and more intense way.  The climate is changing both in terms of the earth, air and water ~ as well as the disposition of the people on the earth.

I don't know about you, but do you find that the people have become more . . .

When a person is "selfish", it means that they are devoted to caring only for their self; and they are concerned primarily with their own interests, benefits, welfare, etc., regardless of others.

This "selfish" term holds true not only for individual people, but also for various countries.

Leaders are holding their positions without regard for the well-being of the people they were elected to serve.

Selfishness is fine when it comes to self~care if you have burned yourself out taking care of others for long periods of time.

Selfishness is also fine when it comes to your emotional well~being, and both your physical and mental health.

However, when it comes to goodwill -- a term that seems to have gone out the window when we weren't watching-- it means that there is a door that opens to you when you have goodwill towards others.  Do you have goodwill towards others?

Frustration, aggravation, irritation, hopelessness, and bad attitudes lead to a very crippled and perplexed society.

There are military troops who are returning home and wondering why in the world they ever left.  For what did they leave their families for?  And, better yet, what did they give up a huge portion of their lives for?  And, even further,  why did they give up limbs and life?  Are we really any better off when we go to war?  Or is it the mission of greedy people to get contracts for their buddies at the expense of your sons and daughters?

Good Evening everyone ~ Goodwill is calling out to you...

Goodwill means that you are friendly, helpful, or that you have cooperative feelings and/or a good attitude.

You cannot be negative and unpleasant if you intend on keeping your goodwill intact.

Downing others is not the road to goodwill.  You cannot bash others and feel good about yourself in the long run.

People who constantly gripe and complain tend to be unpleasant to be around.  Those who are greedy, negative, selfish, and unpleasant are like dark clouds on a sunny day.

If you have ever been around loving and unselfish people, then you will have a very good idea of the difference between being in an atmosphere that is conducive to positive progress, and an atmosphere that is disruptive and disastrous.

Lady Liberty has now wept enough tears for the entire world . . .

Can you see me now?
Are you awake?

RACE ~ Gender ~ EQUALITY ~ Justice

RACE ~ Gender ~ EQUALITY ~ Justice

BLOG SESSION
September 28th, 2017

Good Evening Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors!
We're back here on the Blog to discuss an issue that is difficult, (for some reason), for people to have a candid and honest conversation about.  It is a worldwide issue, and is not limited to the location of where you live.  It is a very important issue for many reasons.

Race, gender, equality and justice ~ What do those terms mean to you?

In order to bring our topic of discussion into view, we are going to dive into a few important incidents that have happened this year.  We will be focusing specifically on the topic of Bad Leadership, which is what our previous Blog Sessions have been about.  You be the judge...

Let's start with the United States and the current President...

Anderson Cooper's Brilliant Reaction To Trump's Statements - EXPOSES His Bad Leadership

What are your thoughts about the above clip?  You are invited to leave your thoughts and comments in our "Comments Section" at the end of this Blog.

Next, we will show you another video clip that will be of interest in relation to our topic of discussion.  Please keep in mind that we are pointing out World Leaders and their viewpoints in addition to their words relayed to the world.  The following clip will start with a commercial ~ please keep viewing...

What about the Hurricanes that took place recently?  How has the response been?  What do people think about the response by Leadership?  Let's take a look at a few clips with input by some known Celebs...

What was the response to President 45 of the United States jumping into NFL Business?  I'd like to point out that reactions by the public at large have been very strong (to put it mildly).  While I personally do not condone vulgar language, everyone needs to be mindful of how they appear when speaking in the public eye -- including in the media, social media, and online.  Strong feelings, sometimes elicit strong language.  Please take a look at this clip for the reactions from NFL Players (caution vulgar language)...

If you are wondering what is all of the uproar about, you are not alone.  There are many more clips, but for now, the question for all Blog Readers is this ~ What are your feelings about Race Relations where you live?

Please note that the video clips are in response to actions/words/media clips/social media posts by the 45th President of the United States.

Journal Notes

Please pull your Journals out and make your notes on today's Blog Session.  You may also leave your comments here on the Blog in the "Comments Section".

Do you think that the responses to what has been said and done by the 45th President of the United States would have been if he did not make it a habit of posting everything he thinks on Twitter?

Do you think it is appropriate for World Leaders to use Social Media to voice their personal opinions when they are responsible for cities, regions, countries and world relations?

~ We'll be back for more on our current topic ~

Around the World: Dangerous Leaders ~ PART IV ~ Pointing out global dangers

Around the World:

Dangerous Leaders

PART IV

Pointing out global dangers

BLOG SESSION
September 27th, 2016

Good Morning Blog Readers, Followers & Visitors ~
We are going to talk about what's going on around the world at this time, and we'll be pointing out what could possibly be global dangers as our Blog Session for today progresses.

Please grab your Journal so that you may take notes.  Your notes will also come in handy for your daily diary entries, which we had been discussing in prior Blog Sessions.  Just to point out to everyone ~ it is beneficial to keep a daily diary to gain a clearer understanding of yourself, and the world around you.  This is a time in history that is worthy of your input, your recording in your Journal and/or Diary, and talking about with others.  The issues that concern you are just as important to others, and in many cases people may be unaware of certain events that are happening if they shy away from the Media, News Reports, Radio Reports, and do not engage in vital communication sessions with other individuals about what is going on in the world around them.

Journal Notes

In your Journal, you have notes from our previous sessions which should include your answers to some questions that were raised.  You can view the questions in our previous Blog Session by scrolling down after reading today's Session, or by clicking on the link in the far right-hand column of our Blog here entitled, "Around the World: Dangerous Leaders ~ PART III"

All Readers were asked to do a rating, and if you have not yet completed the rating, please mark the answers to the following questions in your Journal...

On a Global Scale ~

How do you rate the risk of a crisis happening?

What type of global issues do you foresee?

Are you concerned with global issues?

What is the quality of your water supply?

What is the quality of the air you breathe?

What is the quality of the food supply?

What is the state of your local economy?

Please write your answers in your Journal or Diary.

We are going to discuss a few important issues today that affect a great number of people.  You will have your own thoughts about the issues listed, and we would definitely like to hear what you think.  You may also have issues that you can share with us that affect others that are not listed here today.  Feel free to use the "Comments Section" at the bottom of our Blog to leave your thoughts, input and any other pertinent information that you'd like to share with the other Readers of our Blog.

Thinking Prayerfully

Our main purpose here today on the Blog is to point out what is happening around the world, and what we feel may possibly be global dangers.  We also are going to be discussing how our world leaders are stacking up in terms of handling the situations and crisises going on.

Let's start off with what is going on in Puerto Rico.  It has been over a week since Hurricane Maria hit the Island of Puerto.  Do you think that the devastating situation going on in Puerto Rico is being handled efficiently and in a timely manner by government officials?

Hurricane Maria has devastated Puerto Rico and upended the lives of millions of Americans.  The Hurricane has also left billions of dollars in damage that will wreak havoc on the island's economy, according to initial estimates.

AIR Worldwide calculates the financial toll of natural disasters, and predicts the losses in the Caribbean covered by insurance will be between $40 billion and $85 billion.  More than 85% of those losses are in Puerto Rico, the firm stated.  It should be noted that that number does not include damage to property that is not insured, and excludes flood damage covered by the National Flood Insurance Program.

(Overview of Damage from Hurricane Maria)

In case you did not know, Puerto Rico was in an economic crisis before it was slammed by Hurricane Maria as a Category 4 Storm.  The island remains almost entirely without electricity, and is already in the midst of an 11-year recession.  Puerto Rico filed for the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history back in May 2017.

Is there any Hurricane Relief in sight for Puerto Rico?  What do you say?

Retired Lt. General Honore had much to say about the disaster in Puerto Rico and the response on CNN:  VIEW VIDEO HERE.

In your opinion,  is the United States Administration handling the Puerto Rico disaster appropriately?

Retired Lt. General Russel Honoré speaks about the response by Trump on CNN and the Mayor of Puerto Rico speaks on the issue:  VIEW VIDEO HERE.

What do Seniors think of this generation?

Blog Readers:  Why is NFL Football such a huge issue in the United States?  What are the protests all about? . . .

LEARN MORE FROM BBC NEWS

After you have had a chance to view the News Clips and Articles about the NFL, feel free to leave your thoughts at the bottom of our Blog in the "Comments Section".

On another sad note today, there was a stampede in Mumbai at the train station on a footbridge as people took cover from an unexpected rain shower ~ Unfortunately, 35 have been injured, and 22 are dead.  (Please Note:  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his "deepest condolences to all those who have lost their lives due to the stampede in Mumbai.") ~ Video Clip of Commuters trying to rescue the trapped and injured - Warning Graphic Images [BBC NEWS]

The news clips, issues, and events discussed today here on the Blog are primarily to give you a short overview of what is going on around the world.  Your thoughts matter.  We'd like to hear what you think, and about any issues going on in your area of the world.

Until our next Blog Session ~ Enjoy your weekend!

Get Rid of Your Emotional Baggage . . .

Get Rid of Your Emotional Baggage . . .

Blog Session
June 2017

If you are ready to tackle the issue of emotional baggage, then you are in the right place.  Our Blog Session today will dive into the emotional baggage that many of us, and the people we know carry around with us daily.  It is time to identify it, Journal about it, and get rid of it.

If you are new to our Blog Sessions, then you will want to get a Journal so that you may take notes, and also journal your thoughts and feelings as we go through our Blog Sessions. You will find Journaling to be a very valuable and helpful practice.  So at this point, grab your Journal, Diary, or Notebook so that you may begin to take notes...

Journal time!

The older we get, the worse it gets if we don't recognize that we have emotional baggage holding us back, and holding us down.

Make a note in your Journal that Emotional Baggage consist of unresolved issues of an emotional nature that oftentimes can be detrimental to your well-being.

Emotional baggage comes in a variety of different forms.  One of the main sources of baggage is "Rejection".

  1. Rejection actually activates the same pathways in your brain as physical pain, which is one reason why it hurts so much.  The feeling of rejection toys with your innate need to belong, and for some people, it is so painful and distressing that it interferes with your ability to think, recall memories and make decisions.  The sooner you let go of painful rejections, the better off your mental health will be.

One of the main problems with carrying baggage around, other than the fact that it weighs you down and gets in the way of your progress, is that people tend to "ruminate" over their baggage.

  1. When you ruminate, or brood, over a past hurt, the memories you replay in your mind only become increasingly distressing and cause more anger — without providing any new insights.  In other words, while reflecting on a painful event can help you to reach an understanding or closure about it, ruminating simply increases your stress levels.

The other big bag that people tend to carry around is "blame".  When things go wrong in your life, blaming others is the easy way to turn the finger from pointing at yourself to someone else.  While it may make you feel better for a moment, it is not wise to hold on to such a bad habit.  It is not anyone else's fault for your problems, failures, short-comings, or insecurities.  And, even if it were someone else's fault, what good will carrying the baggage of blame around do for you?

Keep this in mind:  You are not helpless, nor hopeless.

  1. If you allow yourself to feel "helpless" after a failure, or "blame" it on someone else, or your lack of ability or bad luck, it's likely to lower your self-esteem.  Blaming a failure on specific factors within your control, such as planning and execution, is likely to be less damaging, but even better is focusing on ways you can improve and be better informed so you can succeed next time.

What about the real heavy luggage that we carry around called, "guilt".  Do you find yourself carrying around guilt?

  1. Guilt can be beneficial in that it can stop you from doing something that may harm another person (making it a strong "relationship protector").  But guilt that lingers can impair your ability to focus and enjoy life.  If you still feel guilty after apologizing for a wrongdoing, be sure you have expressed empathy toward them, which will likely lead to forgiveness.

Do you have a problem forgiving others?  Is it something that you struggle with, and you know it is weighing you down? Are you able to have compassion or empathy for others?  Are you so self-centered that you cannot put yourself in another person's shoes?  Do you find it hard to believe that other people have feelings just like you do?  Have you ever taken the time to discuss an issue that has been weighing you down with the very person who is connected to that issue?  Do you enjoy playing the martyr?  Could your thinking process be totally off track and you have been told this many times, but you insist on always being right?  Is it possible that the person responsible for your problems and issues is YOU?

Many times, our thoughts and judgments are the source of our emotional pain.

The human mind,  inherently impatient, triggers emotional reactions when our ideas about how things should be collide with how things are.  We sometimes torment ourselves about choices we’ve made, words we’ve spoken, and the path or paths not taken.  Or we dwell on the future, postponing our happiness with thoughts about what is missing or wrong in the present moment.

We must understand clearly that the mind has a lifetime of conditioned beliefs and expectations through which it filters all perceptions.  While the body spontaneously lets go of pain the moment the underlying cause is healed, the mind has a mysterious instinct for holding on.  Through the mind, we create a prison of suffering and then forget that we are the architect and that we ourselves hold the key that will set us free.
Even after years of emotional healing work, we all sometimes make the mistake of believing that something “out there” makes us angry, depressed, anxious, or afraid.  In reality, outside events are only triggers.  The cause of every emotion is within.  By uncovering the false perceptions that cause us to cling to pain, we can open to a deep experience of peace.
In our next Blog Session, we will discuss ways in which you may find your way back to your core of balance, peace, and well-being.  Our  main objective is to get rid of the baggage...

Friends ~ See you in our next Blog Session!

until then . . .

Peace, Love & Light,

 René

Are you depressed?

Mental Health Awareness Month
May 2017

Our topic for this Blog Session is "Depression".  We've talked about it this month during Mental Health Awareness Month, and we'll be discussing it today due to the high number of people who are going through states of depression.

Grab your Journal and your pen, because we have a lot of ground to cover that will be helpful for you, your friends, your family, co-workers, and those in your discussion groups.

The Question is:  Can you or someone you know be depressed without knowing it?

For many people, the answer is "Yes".  Even though most of us know on the surface what depression looks like, it is possible that we miss it.

Many people slip into a state of depression without even realizing it.  With today's high level of technology -- computers, smartphones, tablets, meeting after meeting, family demands, money issues, job stress, health matters, negative news media, and any number of other incidentals -- like accidents, confrontations, and unexpected events, it is no wonder anyone has time for "self care".

Telltale symptoms of depression include:

1)  low self esteem
2)  over critical view of "self"
3)  self-loathing thoughts
4)  negative thinking
5)  bad mood
6)  "touchy feelings"
7)  crying spells
8)  lack of drive
9)  patches of anger

Even the people we're closest to might not realize we're depressed, especially if we're good at covering over our feelings.  Friends, family, associates, co-workers, and those we come in contact with may sense that we're not at our best, but might attribute it to other factors, or they may think it is temporary and it will pass.  They could be wrong.

Given the greater public awareness of depression, how is it possible to not know when it's present?  There are several factors that can play a role:

1.  Depression can look really different from person to person.
Two people who are both depressed might have zero symptoms in common.  Carl, for example, might feel really low, and have insomnia, be unable to eat more than a few bites at a time, struggle with concentration, and be so miserable that he's considering ending his own life.  Tamera, on the other hand, doesn't feel noticeably down, but has no interest in anything, even activities she used to enjoy.  She's sleeping 12 hours a day, but is still fatigued and physically slowed, and feels completely worthless.  As different as these two examples are, they are both consistent with major depressive disorder.  The severity of depression can vary a lot as well -- from being completely unable to function to still being able to take care of one's responsibilities and even find occasional enjoyment.  We are less likely to see milder forms of depression for what they are.
2. Depression tends to develop gradually.
The development of each symptom of depression can be like hair growing, with no noticeable change day to day or even week to week.  Since we are never not with ourselves, we may not have a good sense of small changes over time as our mood, energy, and view of ourselves takes a dip.  And then one day, we might finally look at ourselves and barely recognize the person we see, as the cumulative changes become obvious.
3.  In a related way, the various symptoms of depression often develop at different times.
Depression often has an insidious onset — we develop a symptom here, a symptom there.  We might not have as much energy as before, and a few weeks later we notice that we're crankier than usual.  We might not suspect that both experiences are connected to the same underlying condition. If several depression symptoms landed in your life all at once, it would be much more obvious that they were part of a syndrome.
4. There may be an obvious reason for feeling down.
When we're facing major challenges like health problems, a painful divorce, or job loss, we expect to feel poorly.  It would be strange, in fact, if our moods weren't affected to some extent.  Thus we might not call our reaction "depression," because it seems so understandable.  However, these kinds of losses are among the most consistent predictors of depression, as we lose reliable sources of reward, engagement, and support.
5.  There may be no obvious “reason” to be depressed.
On the other hand, our moods can tank without any cause that we can identify.  It could be that we have a genetic predisposition to depression, or that we're sensitive to seasonal shifts.  There could also be identifiable changes in our lives that could account for our low mood, but we don't make the connection.  For example, we may have gotten a better job, which we expect would improve our mood; however, we also left behind a solid group of friends at our old job, and now have a stressful commute in the car whereas before we could take the train.  Without an obvious trigger for our depression, we’re less likely to see it when it comes.
6.  Some symptoms might not seem like depression.
We often assume that a person who is depressed is really sad, and yet depression doesn't have to include sadness.  Many individuals with depression feel more numb than sad, or may have lost interest in things they used to enjoy without having an obvious shift in their emotional state.  It can also be easy to attribute depression symptoms to other factors, since depression is one of several possible explanations.  For example, we might blame stress for our increased appetite and sleep problems, and think our trouble concentrating is driven by poor sleep.
7. We don’t want to see ourselves as "depressed."
Despite progress over the past few decades, there is still a lot of stigma around depression.  We may have internalized that stigma, seeing depression as a "weakness" or "personal failure."  As a result, we might not want to recognize our own depression.  Maybe we prided ourselves on our strength and resilience, and depression just doesn’t square with our identity.  We may therefore look for any alternative explanation for the way we're feeling.
Recognizing Depression

How Recognizing Depression Helps

Coming to see our depression for what it is can be tremendously helpful, even life-changing, in at least two ways.
First, depression can affect all areas of our life, making us feel like everything is falling apart: We're not sleeping well, we're irritable, our motivation is gone, nothing is fun anymore, and so forth.  Putting these many struggles under a single umbrella makes them much more manageable.  Rather than having 15 problems, we have one, and obviously it is much easier to tackle a single problem than 15.
Second, once we've named it, we know how to treat it. Several "talk therapies" have strong research evidence for alleviating depression.  For example, a few weeks of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) generally has a major effect on depression symptoms.  There are also medications that are used to treat depression, some of which can be as effective as the best psychotherapies.
For many people, depression can be managed without professional assistance, especially if the depression falls in the mild to moderate range, and if there's a low risk for self harm.  Many people are able to manage their own depression through a combination of self-help, strong support from the people closest to them, and by getting involved in a triathlon. [A triathlon is an athletic contest consisting of three different events, typically swimming, cycling, and long-distance running.]
If you or a loved one has been struggling and some of your symptoms could reflect depression, it may be a good idea to schedule an appointment with your primary care doctor or a mental health professional.  Psychology Today offers a database where where you can search for a therapist who would be a good match for you.
However we combat depression, we don’t have to suffer — help is available.  Like anything else in life, knowing what we’re dealing with is half the battle.
THE PERFECT TOOL:  A Journal
Journal your feelings
I can't stress it enough -- Journal your thoughts, feelings, activities, emotions, moods, and the people in your life.
Pay particular attention to what is going on in your life, and what exactly causes your moods to change, emotions to shift, activities to fluctuate, thoughts to change from positive to negative, feelings to go from high to low, and the people in your life to revolve in or out.
Why do certain things happen in your life?
Have you created certain behavior patterns?
Is what you are doing beneficial, progressive and fruitful?
Or is what you are doing negative, destructive and counter-productive?
Where are the places you are going?
Who are the people in your life?
What are the hobbies that you are involved in?
What type of work are you doing? -- Do you like it?
Life can be challenging, sometimes hard, sometimes sad.
But, life can also be rewarding, fun, joyful, interesting, and worth living and worth fighting for -- you choose.
Look for the signs
Friends ~ See you back here with your Journal!
Peace, Love & Light,

 René
