More insight about CampNaNoWriMo!

More insight about CampNaNoWriMo!

BLOG SESSION
April 3rd, 2018

Welcome back Authors, Novelists, Journalists, Writers, Poets, emerging authors, Artists, Blog Readers, Followers, Friends & Visitors!

We are here this evening to get back to learning more about CampNaNoWriMo.  Please click on the link if you have not yet visited the Spring Writer's Camp and/or signed up to get started with writing your book or working on your Writing Project during the month of April 2018.

If you were here for our last Blog Session, then you have plenty of notes in your Journal about getting started with writing your book online (for free) in a wonderful Writer's Spring Camp that many of us are familiar with.  Camp NaNoWriMo is the off-spring of NaNoWriMo ~ which stands for "National Novel Writer's Month" -- which takes place every November.

Writers get together online to work on their Novels, Books, Short Stories, Poetry, and Writer's Projects during Camp in the Spring and Summer online.  You're encouraged to check it out if you have always wanted to write a book but may not have quite known how to get inspired to do so.  Just make a note in your Journal that there are plenty of other Writers and established Authors online working on their book projects during Camp NaNoWriMo in both the Spring (April) and Summer (July).  While there are many sites that you can check out if you are a Writer looking for a place to work on your Novel or Writing Project, we're focusing on Camp NaNoWriMo at this time.  We're particularly interested in focusing on Camp NaNoWriMo at this time because the month of April has just begun, and now we can all get started writing for the month of April together with other Writers.

You'll enjoy the Camp -- you can pick your Cabin once you have signed up to participate.  Cabins are Camp NaNoWriMo's version of a writing group.  Up to 20 writers can bunk together in a virtual cabin to create a personal writing community.  Doesn't that sound like fun!?

You can also choose to be part of a Cabin by being sorted into a public cabin, or by creating or being invited into a private cabin.

Learn more about Camp NaNoWriMo Cabins by clicking here...

NOTE:  To join a cabin, make sure you’ve:
1.  Created a Writing Project for the current session of Camp, and
2.  Filled out your Profile.
3.  Then, be sure to set your preferences on the Cabin Settings page...
If you want to be sorted into a cabin randomly, select the “Surprise me with random cabin mates!” option and click “Submit.”
If you want to be sorted into a cabin with writers that share similar interests, select “I’m looking for campers that match specific criteria.”
Then, you’ll be able to request cabin mates within your age group, writing in your genre, and/or with similar word-count goals.  Once you’ve selected all the preferences you’d like, click “Submit”.
Cabin assignments begin shortly before the start of the event, and will continue throughout the month of April on a rolling basis.
There is a lot more to go over in relation to Camp NaNo, so be sure to join us back here for our next Blog Session!
Start taking notes about your Novel

Be sure to leave your thoughts, insight, or any questions in our "Comments Section" at the end of any of our Blog posts.  If you are NEW to working online with your book writing, you may have some questions that you'd like to share here or online in Camp.  Once you sign up, remember you can . . .
  • Complete your writing project in a month
  • Track your progress
  • Get online support
  • The best thing is ~ It is Free to participants!
  • Also, it is 100% fun ~ and worth checking out (smiles)
See you in our next Blog Session, and/or over in Camp NaNoWriMo!

We Writers are getting ready to participate in the wonderful place for Writers who are focused on their book writing, Memoirs, Biographies, poetry, and other Writing Projects.  The place that I am referring to is online, and it is called Camp NaNoWriMo.

Springtime, (during the month of April 2018), we Writers will be busy cranking out our next interesting Novel.  What about you?  Will you be participating at Camp NaNoWriMo in the virtual world?  If you plan to write your first book, your next book, or work on a Writing Project, the month of April is a good time for you to get online and get busy creating your next masterpiece.  All you have to do if you have never participated before at Camp NaNo is to click on the link and sign up!  It is free, and it is FUN!

For those of you who have participated during the month of November in previous years ~  (November is National Novel Writing Month) online at:   NaNoWriMo.org ~ you will have an idea of what writing a Novel in 30 days is all about.  During Camp online at Campnanowrimo.org, we'll be doing the same thing we do during the month of November.  At Camp, you have the freedom to write whatsoever you desire, and it doesn't have to be a Novel.  You can write a poetry book, a Memoir, a Biography, a Research Project, or any other Writing Project that you are interested in creating.

The Writer's Comfort Levels ~ PART 19 ~ "Kindness"

The Writer's Comfort Levels
PART 19
"Kindness"

BLOG SESSION
February 16th, 2018

Welcome back Blog Readers, Writers, Authors, Novelists, Journalists, Poets, Followers & Visitors...

We're here for another great Blog Session, so you'll want to grab your Journal so that you can take notes about our emotion for this evening, "Kindness".

Journal Notes

All Writers here with us this evening that have been following along in our Sessions about The Writer's Comfort Levels should have plenty of good notes about the 18 previous emotions that we have covered already.  And, you should also have written some very good material in your Journal for our last Journal Exercise about the emotion of "Shock" in relation to the three babies and the cat pictured in our last Session.  [You will find our last Blog Session if you scroll down past this one, or you may find any of our previous Blog Sessions over in the far right-hand Column in our "Blog Archive"].

As we dive into the emotion of "Kindness", you'll want to take a moment to reflect on whether or not you consider yourself to be "kind"?  In case you are wondering what the definition of kindness is, I'll provide you with a short description below. . .

Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.

There are many descriptions for what you may consider to be a kind person other than what is listed above.  I'm sure you've heard people describe someone they believe to be kind like so...

"He really showed forth kind-heartedness."
"She sure was "warm-hearted."
"They really showed a great deal of tender-heartedness."
"They really showered us with a great deal of goodwill."

Other words that bring to mind people who know how to show kindness to others are:   affection, warmth, gentleness, tenderness, concern, care, consideration, considerateness, helpfulness, thoughtfulness, unselfishness, selflessness, altruism, compassion, sympathy, understanding, big-heartedness, benevolence, benignity, friendliness, neighbourliness, hospitality, amiability, courteousness, generosity, magnanimity, indulgence, patience, tolerance, charitableness, graciousness, lenience, humaneness, mercifulness, decency, bounteousness, and also, "loving".

You may find this hard to believe, but some people find it very hard to be kind to others.  Some people find it difficult to show kindness to another person.  In fact, there are people who take great pride in being hateful and unkind.

You have to wonder if people who are hateful and unkind were treated that way and learned just how to perfect that horrible disposition.  And you also have to wonder if people who are hateful and unkind are bitter about something that went wrong in their life?

Kind Acts are needful.   Good Deeds are welcomed.

Kindness comes from the heart

What is the latest "Act of Kindness" that you have done?  When was the last time you performed a good deed?

To assist others, be of service to others, to offer help to others, or to aid others in any way are all acts of "kindness".

An Act of Kindness

Children tend to emulate what they see their parents, adults or other children do.  Do you find yourself doing something that you witnessed as a child?

Is this a scene you'd like your child to emulate?

Do you ever wonder how many abusers have come from a family that practiced abuse on a daily basis?  This includes not only physical abuse, but also emotional and mental abuse.  Being unkind is oftentimes a "learned" behavior.  Unkind people are also very, very insecure.  Bullies are bullies because they feel so very small.  You'll also find that jealous and envious people are generally mean-spirited.  Also known as "back-stabbers" and "snakes".

Whatever the reason a person is unkind to others, there is no excuse for that type of behavior.  Remember, the things that we do come from the "heart" ~ the good and the bad.

Son emulating his father

Showing your children the right way, the best way, the smart way, and the kind way is much more beneficial than having your child learn the wrong way, worst way, ignorant way, and the mean way from others.

Kids tend to imitate other children . . .

Children tend to emulate what they see on TV
as well as what they see other children do.

As a parent, you must pay attention to what your child is watching on television, on the computer, on their tablet, cell phone if they have one, and what they are reading.  Who are your child's friends?  What type of parents do your children's friends have?  Do you know?  Do you care?

Also be aware:  Is your child being bullied at school, or is your child acting as the school bully?

Is your child learning how to talk on the phone?

What types of conversations are you having?

The answer will give you a good indication on the types of conversations your child will be having.

As we close our Blog Session for this evening, remember ~ Kindness has a lot to do with "manners" . . .

Have you ever seen a man not open the door for a woman?

~ Real men still open doors for ladies ~

When we talk about "Comfort Levels", we need to focus in on the areas in which you feel comfortable when it comes to your writings.

Sadness is an emotion that is familiar to all of us.  We have times when we are sad for whatever reason.  Some of us go in and out of sadness quickly, while others of us may stay in prolonged states of sadness.  When you think of sadness, you must draw a line between sadness and depression.

Sadness can also go by other names, such as unhappiness, sorrow, dejection, misery, despondency, despair, desolation, wretchedness, gloom, gloominess, dolefulness, melancholy, mournfulness, heartache, grief, the blues, and finally . . .

depression.

Depression is where for the purposes of this Session, we will draw the line.  Self doubt is the root of depression.  And from self doubt springs feelings of severe despondency and dejection.  Although depression has been classified as a state of being sad, I tend to think that it goes deeper than that.  Sadness is not necessarily long lasting, whereas depression can be.

If at any time you feel yourself becoming "sad", that is the exact moment when you need to get your pen and paper out, or sit yourself down at your computer or laptop, or grab your tablet.  Here is when you do what you do best -- WRITE.

If you don't think you are comfortable when you are sad, you will find that as a Writer, this is a place of comfort when you utilize your gift of the pen.  Poets will know well of what I am speaking about.

All sadness has meaning.  Whether you find that meaning to be trivial or of deep significance ~ believe me, there is meaning.

What do I mean when I say, "sadness has meaning"?  I mean that you are sad because you need to get to the story behind your sadness and write it out.  Why on earth would you be a Writer if you have not taken a journey through all of the emotions that flow in and out of your being?

Take the emotion of "sadness" and work with it.  Treat sadness as a friend when you meet it.  Ask of it what you will, and sadness will be glad to talk to you.  Make a pot of coffee and sit yourself down and get comfortable for a bit with sadness.  If you don't like coffee, make yourself some tea.  Sadness likes to talk.

We are going to have a eye-opening Blog Sessions dealing with "The Writer's Comfort Levels", so grab your Journal...

Journal Time

Take a moment to reflect on a time when you were sad.  If you can remember the date, jot that down.  If you can remember why you were sad, jot that down.  If you have no idea why you were sad, jot that down.  If there were people involved in your sadness, write their names down.  If there was a circumstance or situation that caused your sadness, write that down.

Here is what you are doing -- you are meeting up with this friend of yours called, "Sadness" who sometimes goes by the nickname "Sorrow".

Don't be afraid of Sadness/Sorrow.  You'll learn valuable lessons from this friend.  You'll find that Sadness/Sorrow will help you to hone your writing craft.  And, don't worry -- Sadness/Sorrow won't charge you a dime.

While you work with Sadness/Sorrow in your Journal, we'll just take time out for a coffee break, and afterward, we'll be back for our next Session dealing with "The Writer's Comfort Levels"...

Evening Edition

Good Evening Emerging Novelists of 2017 ~ we are really getting into the groove of this Novel writing business online.  As you can see from the image at the top of tonight's Blog Session, I'm a little busy just like the cat with the typing paws.

For this evening, I'm going to share a nice link that you can take a look at during your Novel Writing break while in the middle of finishing up your Novel or writing project on NaNoWriMo...

Pro Tips from a NaNo Coach: Figuring Out How to Finish

When you click on the above link, you'll be able to read Author and NaNo Coach K. Ancrum's tailored advice for wherever you may find yourself at this moment in your writing journey.

At the present time, my word count is 44,254 words.  I'm going to continue typing, and adding to my Novel this evening.  I expect to definitely get to 50,000 words or beyond by sometime tomorrow if not before.

This month's adventure that we have all been having has been an eye~opening experience.  Many of us have found our passion for writing once again.  Others of us have discovered that we can write more words than we thought we could in a given amount of time.

Many of us are working diligently on our Novels and/or writing projects this evening so that we may complete our National Novel Writing Month in style with a cool congratulations to ourselves for all of our hard work.

While many of us used to type to keep our typing speed up, now we type to accomplish a completed Novel!

Get those photos ready for your Author/Novelist shot!

~ Best wishes Novel Writer! ~

See you on the Blog tomorrow...
